Information about Christina

Why choose me as your tutor? I really enjoy teaching and getting to know my students - finding out what their learning barriers are, how to challenge them and how to make them as passionate about Business & Accounting as I am.
Helping students achieve their A* is really fulfilling but the comments that make me most proud are from parents and students who say how I have restored the confidence and self esteem in students who had gained Us in their mocks and now believe in themselves again.
I qualified to teach Business & Economics (PGCE 14-19) at UCL, Instititue of Education, in 2002. Prior to that I qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989 and lectured in Business & Accounting at Middlesex University Business School.

Availability: I teach online and face to face; whichever way suits the student. I currently use the Learn Cube platform for online sessions.

Face to face teaching works better for some students, especially if they have learning difficulties.

My tuition rates are based on online lessons or if students come to me - if I come to you I charge an extra £5 to cover fuel & travel time.

If you’re in the Sixth Form, home schooling or retaking, I have availability during the day as tutoring is my only job so I can fit in around your free lessons.

I work Monday-Thursday, all day. I’m currently fully booked after school on Thursday.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: My students have all been successful, usually making at least 2 grades of progress (depending on their starting point when they come to me & how long I teach them for).

2023 A Level Business:
40% A/A*, 40% B, 20% C

GCSE Business: Grade 8

50% of the students had diagnosed SEN & a retake student went from B to A*
——————————————————
2022 A Level Business:
60% A/A*, 40% B including those with severe dyslexia

2022 A Level Accounting:
after intensive teaching, my student achieved grade B in only 7 months - I was his only teacher
——————————————————
Autumn 2020 A Level AQA Business retakes: 2 students gained As, having been assessed as C & E grades by their teachers

2019 A Level Business: 50% A/A*

The financial and maths elements in Business can be challenging. I aim to improve students’ understanding and confidence. Essay writing skills include focussing on the demands of the question, understanding context and application and constructing logical chains of argument using structuring techniques.

As well as using past papers, I produce my own case studies based on recent Business news and styled like the exam questions. I also use the most up to date text books and work books.

All sessions are bespoke, depending on the needs of the student. So the first session is free so that I can gauge the level and learning style of the student. I am particularly good at spotting learning difficulties and advising on how to access assessments and support.

I spend a lot of time preparing individual lessons & marking students’ homework (included in the hourly fee).

I am experienced in helping students to make choices at transition times such as Year 9, 11, 12 & 13. I have also helped parents to apply for SEN referrals with their local authority and to access learning support within school.

The current A Levels are tough and I keep up to date with Business expectations - I’ve attended events for Business & Economics teachers in 2018 & 2020, the AQA Business Examiner’s feedback training on the 2018 exams and in November 2019 I attended Aiming for an A in Edexcel Business with Hodder Education.

I taught in schools for over 8 years and achieved excellent results. I have been an Assistant Director of Sixth Form and an Assistant Headteacher. I’ve also enjoyed roles based outside schools, working with vulnerable groups including young offenders, children in care and permanently excluded young people.

I’ve been tutoring since May 2017.

I grew up in Liverpool and left in 1988; I’ve also lived in the US and Malaysia. I’m sociable with a good sense of humour so I can usually relate well to students and build rapport quickly.

Christina is very good at explaining the areas of business I struggle with and she provides me with helpful resources. She always works hard and will look at and mark any amount of essays I throw at her!

An outstanding tutor who motivated my son and identified the gaps in his learning straight away. Very thorough in her planning and tailors the lessons according to needs. In the space of 2 months, my son’s predicted grade is already 1 grade higher.

Tutors Response :

Thank you for the lovely feedback Heidi. It’s a pleasure to work with your son and I’m so pleased to hear his grade has improved.
