Information about Kelly
Experienced, dedicated and knowledgeable Deputy Head with a proven track record of English results. Specialist in ASC, ADHD and other complex needs.
I absolutely love English and literature, and find working with students of all ages to unlock understanding and engagement in such a complex and rich subject the most satisfying thing about being a teacher. I aim to make English accessible and interesting, whether that`s tackling the basics of punctuation and grammar, or delving deep into character motivation, or evaluating how effective a writer`s choices are in creating atmosphere in a text.
Availability: I am able to work with students from Year 7 to Year 14 in both English and English Lit.
I am available Tuesday - Friday in the late afternoon/evening and all weekends. On Mondays I am available in the evening only, from around 5pm depending on location.
I am based in Salisbury but can look to travel if necessary, particularly towards the New Forest/Lymington direction.
Willing to travel: 20 miles
Experience: I`ve been a teacher since 2006. Currently, I am in post as a Deputy Head, specialising in English and literacy, in a specialist school for students with Asperger`s and autistic spectrum conditions. I`ve been in this role since April 2015. In the past I have been a Head of English in a large mainstream school.
I have a proven track record of results, both as a classroom teacher and a manager of others. In my time as Head of English, GCSE results in English increased from 36% A*-C to 74% A*-C. In my current role I have just taken a school from Requires Improvement to Good following some really rigorous attention to the English department.
I work exceptionally hard to plan personalised lessons pitched at an accessible but challenging level. I am able to specialise in autism-friendly approaches with lots of structure, routine and visual support, as well as tailoring my approach for young people with other complex needs such as ADHD and social and emotional difficulties.
