Information about James

Hello!

I am an enthusiastic and friendly character, holding both a first-class bachelor`s degree in psychology, and a master`s degree in cognitive neuroscience. My motivation and dedication has helped me in my academic pursuits, and I aim to bring that same level of dedication to each of our tutoring sessions!

My priority in personal tutoring is in its name: personal. As my pupil, I will take the time to learn your goals, requirements, and learning style so that each session works for you. Teaching, to me, is a wonderful experience: I take great pride in helping others work through topics that can lead to the fulfilling of their aspirations.

My approach to tutoring focuses on identifying and developing transferable skills contained within your assessments, so that you can not only pass your exams, but also draw upon what you have learnt to help tackle future problems of a different nature. If you understand the mechanics of a given question, then you will be able to understand any question of that sort. I can help you in this understanding.

My strong academic track record in psychology and neuroscience means you can be confident in my knowledge of the content you wish for assistance with. From me, you can get assistance in exam prep, academic report writing, and understanding various theoretical concepts within psychology. I can also provide clear and actionable help with quantitative statistical analyses. Whether its helping your conceptual understanding of a regression analysis, or showing you how to implement an ANOVA in SPSS, I am committed to a goal-orientated approach to helping you understand statistics to the extent that you require.

Additionally, I am a guitarist with 11 years of experience in playing electric and acoustic guitar. I have played a variety of genres (e.g. rock, blues, metal, jazz), and have experience in playing these genres in live bands. My teaching style aims to build technique, whilst grounding this technique in applied music theory (by practising a lick over a II-V-I progression in all keys, or by learning a variety of songs by other artists), so as to build confidence and musicality.

Availability: I am available mornings, afternoons, and evenings, Monday to Friday. I am also happy to tutor weekend mornings.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I am educated up to master`s level in psychology and cognitive neuroscience. I have a masters in cognitive neuroscience from University College London (Distinction), and a first class degree in psychology from Aston University. Furthermore, I have 12 months research industry experience working in the R&D department of Gillette. I also have experience in science communication, gained through completion of a relevant master`s module and through presenting at multiple events, including one at The Royal Society.
