Information about Georgia
Hi, my name is Georgia! I recently finished my Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP University in London, and am taking a few months off studying to work and travel (hopefully!) before I start work at a law firm in the City. I am also currently trying to publish my dissertation in an international journal.
Before that, I attended the University of Cambridge and attained a first class degree in Politics and International Relations. In my first and second years I also took modules in various other disciplines including history, psychology and sociology. Prior to Cambridge I studied the International Baccalaureate and so have a background in a wide range of humanities, sciences and languages. I took History, Chemistry and Maths at higher level and Economics, Spanish and English at standard level. I`ve always been keen to keep my academic interests broad, and studying both humanities and sciences to a high level has really helped my breadth and depth of knowledge. I also achieved 11 A stars at GCSE level.
During my time at Cambridge I undertook a wide variety of extra-curricular activities to supplement my studies, including being Women`s Captain of the University Swimming Club and working on the committee of Newnham College Garden Party to hold an event for 800 people. I was also Freshers` President for my year, responsible leading the committee that organises the smooth transition of the incoming cohort, so I`m very comfortable with making people feel at ease! I`ve always been really sporty, and competed at a National level for swimming, and County level for hockey and netball. I really love travelling, and spent time living in America, Australia and New Zealand during my gap year before I started university.
Availability: I am widely available, please contact me to arrange the best time.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I took a gap year before I started university, and during this time I worked at a summer camp in upstate New York during the summers of both 2015 and 2016, working with girls aged 7-16. I taught swimming to the full range of ages, and lived in a bunk with 12-13-year-olds, caring for them full-time in a pastoral role. During this time I also tutored Maths to a 16-year-old. Despite not having been brought up under the American education system, I quickly adapted to the material and had a very productive experience. During the period between summers, I worked as an au pair in Sydney, Australia, for a 6-year-old boy and 8-year-old girl, adapting to a new environment and showing resilience in challenging circumstances. As well as general care (including making dinner, taking them to activities etc) I also worked on their homework with them, teaching the 6-year-old how to read during my time there. During the summer of 2018 I worked as a mentor and supervisor for children from Hong Kong aged 12-13 at the Cambridge Summer Programmes. I tutored the children in English, Maths, History and Geography.
I`ve also always been really passionate about working with children, and have had a wide variety of jobs and volunteering experiences in this area. In 2014 I worked with children aged 15-19 in Ladakh, India, who had failed their exams and went to a special school in which to try and improve. I taught English and sciences on behalf of SECMOL, the Students Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh. Similarly, in 2017 I went to the Helambu region of Nepal for 6 weeks to teach English to children aged 6-16, some of whom didn`t speak a word of English- and I didn`t speak any Nepali!
While at sixth form I volunteered at the Stephen Perse Foundation pre-preparatory school, teaching children aged 6 who were struggling with Maths and English skills. I also have a Level 1 swimming teaching qualification award, and have coached at City of Cambridge Swimming Club from September 2014.
