Information about Navraj

Hi, my name is Nav.

I have just completed my fourth year at Newcastle Medical School where I will remain for 2-3 years longer training to become a doctor. As well as undertaking regular written examinations, I have had to speak with patients in hospitals and in general practice consistently, thus showing that I am able to talk to a wide and diverse range of the population in a polite manner.

In 2012, I completed a 3-day course to make myself a qualified first aider. As well as being a senior prefect at school, I was part of the debate club and also captain of the Men’s 1st XI hockey team. I used to be in the rugby team as well as also being house captain of swimming. I now play hockey for the Mens 1st XI for Newcastle University and have also played at regional and national levels for my age group.

In 2012, I raised £2450 for a charity called Childreach International by trekking The Great Wall of China. This involved a lot of fundraising, including organizing a charity talent show in Birmingham with a variety of different acts. I also went to North India, to the Punjab area, where I undertook work experience in a local hospital. I witnessed my first surgical experience, when watching a surgeon amputate a foot, due to infection in a diabetic patient.

In 2012, I volunteered at George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton doing patient surveys which gave me much one-to-one with patients helping to improve my communication and listening skills.

From 2011-2012, I volunteered with St. Thomas’ Day Centre helping to look after some of the elderly users, including serving meals and playing games with them. During the same period, I used to volunteer weekly at Bedworth Disabled Swimming Club, helping to teach children with cerebral palsy and autism how to swim.

(I also have a B at A level Further Maths from Edexcel however this could not be shown on `my qualifications` on this website)
