Information about Eva

**** No availability left for this term ****

After gaining a PhD in Biological Sciences, I worked as a research scientist at the University of Oxford for over three years and, currently, I hold an editorial position at a Medical Education Agency. I have enjoyed science since I was a child and I am especially interested in everything related to biology: from nature, evolution, environment and natural history, to human biology and novel medical treatments. I love sharing my passion for science with children and adults and I believe that by making the study of science as simple and interesting as possible, and by helping pupils to understand how science theory can be applied in the real world, students can be encouraged to reach their full potential.

In addition, although I have lived in Britain for 20 years, I enjoy teaching my mother tongue, Spanish, to children and adults. It is a real pleasure to see how students gain confidence in the language after regular practice.

I have two lovely sons who are in primary school, and if I have any spare time, I perform in amateur musical theatre.

Experience: As a research scientist at Oxford University, I trained and lectured students of various ages, from undergraduates and teenagers to school children partaking in science-experience days. In addition, for five years I designed and taught intensive (two-day) ecology courses aimed at members of the public and delivered on behalf of wildlife charity organisations. I have also helped various students with improving their study skills (e.g. notes and revision) and with entrance applications for university.
Regarding Spanish tuition, I am experienced in teaching both, casual (business or leisure) learners, or those preparing for GCSE/A-level examinations.

Tutoring Approach:
My priority is to tailor sessions and to devise plans for each student based on their individual needs. The pupil (and parents, if applicable) will be regularly informed of what is required to progress, always aiming at increasing the student’s confidence in the subject and hence achieving better results.
Lessons vary depending on the student, for example, they can include: addressing specific problem areas of the curriculum, reinforcing what the student has already learnt in class and making sure he/she covers the curriculum specifications, aiding in work set at school when the student feels they need help with this, enhancing a student’s knowledge on a particular subject or exam technique, or helping with notes and revision. I always try to motivate students to love their subject as much as I do as a way of encouraging them to do their best and enjoy their lessons.
For pupils in secondary education, for both science and languages, I provide homework, which I mark and return with feedback, past paper exams, and keep a record of short-term targets and long-term goals, complemented with regular feedback and email contact when necessary.
