I graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2013, with a double first class honours degree in History. In my final year, I achieved a starred first, and was made a Foundation Scholar of Corpus Christi college, the institution`s highest academic award.
I come from a family of teachers and tutors, working both in England and abroad, and have always been passionate about learning. I am committed to the belief that education means more than textbooks and exams. It means building genuine, lasting understanding of a subject. And this can only grow when you are enthused and excited by the material in front of you.
I have been surrounded by teachers for the majority of my life. Some have been good, others bad. But if they have taught me one lesson, it is that for a pupil to master something, they need to be taught with patience, enthusiasm, but above all, imagination.
I like to think I`ve learnt my lesson, and with this in mind, I hope to give you the best possible chance to succeed.
Success in the humanities, from primary to undergraduate level, requires the confidence to think imaginatively around the given material. It is this that I aim to achieve in every lesson, combining core syllabus content with the skills necessary to approach it using a critical and inventive eye.
My particular areas of expertise lie in History, which I can teach up to and including undergraduate level, and English Literature. However, I am more than happy to tutor across the humanities, helping to develop effective argumentation and essay structure. I also tutor Latin up to GCSE level, for anyone in need of a helping hand with grammar, composition, translation, and set texts.
Additionally, if you are simply looking for someone to read and critique an essay or dissertation, I`d be more than happy, and could do so with a quick turnaround.
UNIVERSITY AND OXBRIDGE APPLICATIONS
Applying to university can be a nightmare. I can help develop an impressive and charismatic personal statement. Having recently been through the Oxbridge process myself, I am able make targeted improvements to interview technique through mock interviews and discussion. Alongside offering suggested reading and background preparation across the humanities, I can help ensure you are in the best position to sail into the university of your choice.
