Information about Lana
I am a former primary school teacher interested in tutoring pupils on a part-time, online basis. I feel confident that my teaching experience and my knowledge of the British, American, and IB curriculums will allow me to teach both core and foundation subjects to a high standard. I would primarily be interested in tutoring Key Stage 1 pupils in the areas of Maths, English, Science or History as well as teaching Psychology to older students and adults as well.

Experience: I have considerable professional and academic experience in teaching primary school pupils and have a strong academic background in Psychology. My qualifications include a BA in Psychology as well as an MSc in Health Psychology. Through these higher education degrees I had the opportunity to explore and understand human behaviour through modules outlining developmental, social, cognitive, clinical and neurobiological pathways, and developed an in-depth understanding of statistics. I am also currently completing a Foundation Certificate degree in Psychotherapy and Counselling. As a result, I now possess rich background knowledge of Psychology A Level material and beyond that would enable me to teach Psychology to older pupils. I have also completed a PGCE in Primary Education through which I attained Qualified Teacher Status. I have had substantial experience supporting pupils across London-based mainstream and SEN schools as both a Teaching Assistant and a Class Teacher. As a Teaching Assistant my main duties involved providing group and one-to-one support in Maths and English, providing daily phonics and handwriting lessons, and assisting with all other classroom duties. Across my roles as an SEN Assistant I supported children with Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Downs Syndrome on a one-to-one and a group basis. As a primary school teacher, I planned and taught well-structured lessons to Year 4 pupils and contributed to the design and provision of the primary curriculum. I taught core and foundation subjects including English, Maths, Science, History, and Geography to a high standard and adapted my teaching through differentiation based on varying abilities. I used formative and summative assessments to monitor pupil progress, set targets and provide feedback and managed behavioural expectations effectively by establishing a fair and consistent behaviour system based on praise, rewards, and sanctions. I held high learning and behaviour expectations of my pupils in order to boost their confidence while remaining acutely attentive to their vulnerabilities and worries. I consistently encouraged my pupils to be inquisitive and reflect on their beliefs, engage in critical thinking, reach balanced conclusions and demonstrate tolerance towards others. By utilising my expertise in child protection and safeguarding, I created a safe space for my pupils to thrive in. I have also developed vital interpersonal skills needed to communicate with and support parents and carers and liaise effectively with colleagues to make informed decisions regarding childrens learning and wellbeing. Throughout my time teaching, I attended regular and relevant professional development and training in order to continue developing my teaching practice.
