Information about Megan

My name is Megan and I am an Event & Engagement Officer, working at Cardiff University but based in Bridgend. (Broadlands)
I have always enjoyed tutoring part time whilst at University and 6th Form. I had looked in to becoming a teacher, but enjoy working with children on a one to one basis so that I can match exactly what they need from a teacher.
Whilst at school, I had experiences where teachers had to address the whole class and didn`t have time for those who may learn slightly differently. Sometimes, that extra one to one is all that`s needed.

My skills are in Drama, Media & English Literature. I try to focus on a child`s attitude to the subject first so that we can plan together how to tackle it best.

This is not just an extra income for me, but a chance to carry on a vocation that I have always been passionate about.

Since moving to Wales I have tutored one A-Level student in English Literature, Drama and Media (2015) and two students together in A-Level Drama (2016).

Grades:
2015 Drama, Media & English Lit student (Awarded BBB)
2016 A-level Drama students (Awarded A & A*)

Availability: Evenings & Weekends
The student is welcome to visit my own home or I can visit there`s. The Bridgend area is preferable but I am happy to reach out to Pencoed etc.

First meeting- FREE
Before commencing the tutoring, I find it benefits the student if I meet them first so they can get to know me and so they feel in control.

I will then construct a plan with the student (and parents if needed) to work out how the tutoring is best offered.

During my tutoring, I provide the student (and parents if needed) with their own written feedback once a month (or more often if you wish.)

I am also happy to consider tailor made tuition. This is whereby a child may be struggling overall with a few different subjects. It`s best to sit down with the student and the parents and look at a plan of how we can improve the overall approach to schooling and pick out any parts that need the most work.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: My experience to date started with my brother who is 10 years my junior. From a young age, I helped him with homework and tests which led to my parents recommending I look at tutoring.
During 6th form, I studied with a primary school class once a week as a class room assistant. Here, I sat with children on a one to one basis and took time understanding where they were struggling.
At University, I worked with secondary school children on a volunteer programme to help them excel in Drama, Music & Dance GCSE`s. I also tutored one male student for GCSE Religious Studies and a brother and sister for English.

I am very proud of my most recent students who I tutored in A-level drama. Studying together, we have managed to get one of them from a D to an A and the second from a C to and A*- a fabulous achievement!

In my current role with Cardiff University, I engage with primary & secondary schools on raising awareness around Mental Health and educating on the brain in general.
