Information about Charlotte
I am a PhD-educated, fully qualified English teacher at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, and have been Head of English in a London state school for six years. I have been an examiner for AQA since 2017, so I am up-to-date with the very latest exam information and changes. I attend exam board training regularly and have full access to all past papers and examiners` reports for AQA and Edexcel boards.
I studied at Russell Group universities and hold a BA (English), MA (Victorian literature), and a PhD (19th/20th century English poetry).
I have tutored many students in the past (GCSE, IGCSE, and A-level) and all have gone on to improve their grades. All my most recent tutees who worked with me weekly for six months or more gained at least a grade 5, and the vast majority achieved grades 7-9. Similarly, my A-level tutees also achieved an average increase of two grades between AS levels and A-levels (in some cases, an increase of four grades).
The tutor/tutee relationship needs to be based on interesting sessions and an understanding of how the tutee learns. I focus on working with the tutee to improve not only grades, but also the learning experience, and I aim to ensure that students enjoy literature they had previously dreaded.
Availability: I offer both online and face-to-face sessions, on evenings, weekends, and school holidays. Please also note that a face-to-face session length is two hours (online sessions can be shorter, if desired), except under exceptional circumstances, and that I use public transport to travel to and from work, so on weekday evenings I am more likely to be able to tutor between central London and my home than further out of London.
I update my availability on here regularly, but please note that I will be able to offer irregular or occasional sessions outside my weekly availability - please enquire. Please also note that I have very limited availability (e.g. some evenings I can only offer a one-hour online session) and that I will prioritise Y11 and Y13 students.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I was a lecturer and tutor at a Russell Group university (eight years) before becoming a secondary school English teacher in London schools (13 years, six of which were as Head of English). I am now an assistant headteacher at a central London state school and still teach English at GCSE and A-level.

Contacted Charlotte after my daughter received a 3 in her Year 10 English language exam. After 4/5 sessions with Charlotte, she retook the exam and achieved an 8. It`s great to have tutor who shows such enthusiasm about their subject which is infectious.
