Information about Joseph
I am a second year Mathematics undergraduate at the University of Bath (a top 5 University according to the Guardian University League Tables 2018). I love learning and equally enjoy teaching. During my second year I tutored first year students for the University of Bath Mathematics Resource Centre (www.bath.ac.uk/professional-services/mathematics-resources-centre-mash/).
Maths isnt easy. But its one of the most important subjects for anyone planning to study a science or engineering related degree. From Biochemistry to Psychology to Mechanical Engineering, Maths plays a core aspect in understanding.
As a student at Colchester Sixth Form College, I received A-levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics, achieving A*A*AA. Along with a further A* in an Extended Project Qualification. On top of this I was awarded 2 academic achievement awards from the sixth form and a Jack Petchey Award. I am currently on a long summer break and am available to help others enjoy learning and improving their Maths - one of lifes most valuable skills.
Availability: I am available until early October 2018 when my third year of University starts. I can do both weekends and weekdays, at any (reasonable) time of day.
Willing to travel: 2 miles
Experience: The modern education system isnt just about being smart. Exam and revision techniques are needed to optimise grades, and every top candidate is using them. I have plenty of experience in the current Mathematics and Further Mathematics system as a recent student. I studied A-level Maths on the OCR exam board but I have covered all the content from other exam boards in my first year at University, giving me the ability to teach any student A-level or lower.
I tutored first year A-level Maths students while I was in my second year of A-levels, so I am experienced in tutoring those of a similar age to myself. Alongside this I have taught my younger brother in various levels of Maths, he is 4 years younger than me and often struggles with Maths. This has given me practice teaching students who need more help.
The current system for receiving A*s in A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics is unlike other A-levels and quite complex. As someone who received A*s in both I can help you understand the system.
For A-level students I can help in putting together a personal statement for any science based degree and suggest which Universities would be suited for the degree the student is applying for, thanks to my experience going through UCAS recently.
Along with teaching the content, I can teach how to approach questions and the logical thought process that is required for a Maths question. In Maths it is possible to score the majority of the marks on a question even if you do not know how to answer it by following the right steps.
