Information about Tim

Hi there - it`s great to meet you. You probably want to know a little more about me.

I enjoy working with children of all ages and abilities - I`m friendly, patient, and down to business (but not without making learning a little bit fun). I`m also experienced in all manner of teaching, both practical and theory, as you`ll read below, and I tailor my teaching around the student.

Teaching is one of the great passions of my life; I love working with young people, and even more so love aiding that process of helping them to learn and grow. I still remember going through GCSEs and A levels, and the pressure and workload they require – but also the benefit even a small helping hand can give.

Availability: Most times and days - I sometimes work part-time jobs, but these are variable shifts.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: At The Portsmouth Grammar School, I was a Teaching Assistant for one year, working with years 3-6, and with children of all abilities and learning personalities. We broke down ideas to their simplest formats for young children and designed teaching strategies to bring kids up to speed with the rest of their class, or push them even further forward.

At the University of Bristol, I taught first year students their degree level chemistry for one year, as part of the Peer-Assisted-Study-Sessions, designing lesson plans and tasks that deepened the students` understanding of what they were currently learning in lectures, in a more conversational structure.

In my degree, I studied educational theory for my dissertation, looking at how the university taught chemistry, and the pros and cons of various teaching tools and methods. I also studied the latest research on how do students learn, and how do different students react to different teaching tools and methods.
