Information about Alexandra

Hi! I`m Alex. I`m 25 and I`m a final year medical student training at Imperial College London hospitals.

I`m also an enthusiastic part time Science tutor mainly in the East London area but willing to travel for the right students. I work with students at KS3, GCSE and A-level.

I also have experience with helping writing personal statements and working on interview questions for university. I`m also very happy to help students hoping to get into medical school with their personal statements and the UKCAT exam.

In terms of my own academic history, I got 8 A*s and 4 A`s at GCSE from my local state school, and 4 A`s at A-level in sixth-form college (Biology, Chemistry, History and English Literature).

Sciences were definitely my strong point, and my fascination with nature led me to secure a place studying Biology at the University of Bristol. It was a fantastic degree, covering everything from evolutionary theory to genetics to animal behaviour. I would really recommend it to anyone! I was thrilled to graduate in 2013 with a first class BSc with honours.

Following this, I took a year out to earn a bit of money and decide what career path I`d like to go down. I was a healthcare assistant throughout A-levels as a part-time job, and I decided that my experience in healthcare, love of working with people and my passion for science all pointed me towards medicine.

After perfecting my personal statement, I scored highly on the UKCAT exam, and secured a couple of interviews at medical schools for graduate-entry courses. I was offered a place at Imperial College London, chosen out of thousands of applicants all over the world. Words cannot express how happy I was when I got that email from UCAS!

I think it`s also important to mention that I have always been a strong believer in the need for a life outside academia. I love playing hockey, I volunteer for a charity teaching kids and young offenders first aid, I adore baking, and I also somehow have the time to have an excellent social life! I think it`s crucial to have extra-curricular interests. As important as exams are, other parts of my life have definitely made me a more rounded person, a better role model to young people and a better tutor.

Experience: I have significant teaching experience with biology and chemistry GCSE`s, as well as some maths and other core subjects such as English, History and Geography. I also have experience helping students with biology and chemistry A-levels. I was thrilled to be able to help a student last summer (2016) improve by 2 grades! I have helped to write personal statements for a whole range of subjects (even music production!), and I have also helped with the UKCAT exam technique.

I have also taught several lessons on mental health illnesses to a year 8 class in West London. This was interesting as the subjects included depression, anxiety, self harm and eating disorders which can be quite difficult to talk about, but the lessons were very successful and I was able to facilitate some fantastic discussions.
