Maths and Physics tutor with teacher qualification (PGCE, QTS), and a PhD in Applied Mathematics. I believe tutoring is about helping students achieve the best they can.

I used to work in the research of geophysical methods for oil&gas exploration. I can teach lots about maths, and what it is used for in many different areas such as physics.

Two of my children are in Y9, one has just started A-levels, and the eldest is in his second year at University (studying you-know-what). So, I have ongoing exposure to maths education at School, at Sixth Form and at University.

Availability: Weekdays and Weekends (Any time). 50% off first lesson.

Experience: I completed teacher training this year at the University of Brighton. As part of teacher training, I taught Y8, Y9 and Y10 classes and revised with Y11, A-level Maths and Further Maths classes, at two schools in West-Sussex. Previously, I taught geophysics classes to junior colleagues.

It is important to grasp the concepts, so any gaps in understanding need to be identified and worked on. This can be by us discussing or me explaining, but I find that often it is best to just get stuck in. Learning maths is about plenty of practice using exercises that develop confidence and routine, and that stretch and challenge.

The approach will be agreed between tutor and student. It will depend on the student`s current performance in maths and his or her goals studying it.

Tutoring can be at my home or at the student`s home. I would charge a bit extra for travel outside Horsham, Broadbridge Heath, Southwater.
