La-vern

My name is La-Vern and I am the Head of Sociology at a school in London. I have worked in education for over 5 years and have a great amount of experience within and outside of school settings. I have a degree in Criminology and Sociology and I am currently studying part-time (teaching full-time) in the Psycho-social department of Birkbeck university at Masters level. I am extremely passionate about the social sciences and love to impart my knowledge of the world to the next generation;; I find this passion encourages students to want to do better in their studies and inspires them to find subjects they are also passionate about.

Experience: Although I work in mainstream education, I also work part-time as a tutor and enjoy tutoring. I ensure my students work hard and get great results; all students that I tutor privately have improved tremendously, achieving at least a grade B or above (7 with the new GCSE classification). Additionally, I am an exam moderator for AQA (sociology), so I am able to help students answer exam questions effectively to ensure success.

As mentioned before, being a social science teacher, I like to inspire and encourage students to take a personal interest in their learning as I know the importance of a good education. Teaching has given me great experiences and insight, which I am able to use to better my practice as a tutor. I aim to teach students skills that they can use across all their subjects to ensure that they become well-rounded pupils - but more importantly well-rounded individuals.
