I started learning the saxophone nearly forty years ago and added flute and clarinet a few years later. I began working as a freelance musician in the early 90`s.
Eeesh! where does that time go??

To date I have performed and recorded among a wide variety of very talented musicians and interesting projects, highlights being world tours with Bjork and Bryan Ferry (Roxy Music) and studio work with John Cale (Velvet Underground).

As well as a period spent lecturing music and music tech in further education,I have been teaching individuals for about 20 years with the aim of delivering effective and engaging lessons,assessing a student`s progress continuously so I can provide areas of study which should be challenging but achievable.
I am teaching myself piano grades and they`re difficult! So I fully understand how tricky learning a new instrument is, but my experience and constant practice means I can pass on all the necessary technical and theory knowledge plus great tips for a student`s own rapid improvement.

I really do enjoy helping students of all ages progress towards regular playing enjoyment through any stage of learning from beginner to intemediate and advanced levels and although my own performance career is more towards jazz, I can teach up to grade 8 classical repetoir,especially on flute (I`m a huge fan of Bach`s flute sonatas!).

I am happy to give references from current and past students and for parents of younger students to be present during lesson.

Lesson rates are as follows:

60 mins @ £35
40 mins @ £30

I offer a 10% discount for advance booking of 10 or more lessons.

Lessons are generally between 9.30 am and 7.30 pm Monday to Friday from my home in Newington Green N1 and I can travel to surrounding areas for an additional £5.
