Information about Rachel

London-based architectural designer, researcher and graduate of the Royal College of Art offering architecture, art and design lessons. Currently working at an award-winning architecture practice based in London.

I am an architectural designer and researcher, whose work spans across multiple disciplines from performance, art, materials science and curation. I completed my Architecture BA at the Canterbury School of Architecture where I received First Class Honours and was awarded the Purcell Prize. After two years of working at top AJ100 practices, I completed my Masters of Architecture at the Royal College of Art, graduating in July 2020. I am currently working at an award-winning architecture practice and am a visiting tutor at the RCA.

Each lesson is specific to the individual and will be tailored to the individuals needs. Lessons can be in-person tutorials or done online. Whether you have questions about the direction of your design and research, your portfolio, university applications, how to make a model, use a specific software or proof-read your CV, i’m here to help!

Lessons in Art and Design and Technology will be tailored to the individuals needs. Having studied Art at GCSE and A-Level, tutored Art and Design for several students and been educated at degree level at the World`s top Art and Design university, I have a broad range of expertise from drawing and painting to sculpture and crafts. My aim is not only to help improve the student`s ability but to get them excited about art and encourage their creativity. Having been tutoring students aged 4-16 for over 5 years, I have experience at teaching children and have had a lot of success in improving their motivation, creativity and skill in several subjects.

Experience: Rachel completed her Architecture BA at the Canterbury School of Architecture where she received First Class Honours and was awarded the Purcell Prize for her final project. She then spent two years as an architectural assistant where she gained experience in masterplan, residential, interior and commercial projects. During this time she also won a drawing competition held at the practice, held RIBA Architecture Ambassador workshops to educate college students on architectural education and was a member of the team that won LFA’s competition for the first architecture float at London Pride. She is currently working in an award-winning architecture practice in London, working on theatre and performing arts projects. She continues to be involved in architectural education schemes such as Speaker for Schools and Blueprint for All.

She received her Masters from the Royal College of Art. Her first year work was with ADS 10 and centred around designing for collective rituals in Rome. Her tech studies researched into a new bio-degradable material consisting of potato starch and agricultural waste. She exhibited her work at the exhibition Translations held at Arts Catalyst in 2019 which she also helped to curate. She also represented the RCA at the MegaCrit 2019 by presenting her work in front of a panel and audience at Westminster University.

During her second year she was in ADS 3 with tutors Cooking Sections, which looked at the metabolism of substances in our bodies and the built environment. Focusing on calcium, the project questioned the role of architecture within reconstructed environments and its ability to transform the bodies and spaces which we inhabit. This project was selected as part of Deyan Sudjic, Director of the Design Museum’s curated collection for RCA2020 and was chosen to represent the ADS in the cross-crit for the summer show opening which Rachel presented to a wide audience. Her project was also shortlisted for the animation/film award. In 2020, she worked in collaboration with the Serpentine Galleries’ Back to Earth initiative and the General Ecology project, organising, curating and designing the exhibition alongside a multi-disciplinary collective of designers from the RCA.
