Information about Samantha

Currently NOT taking on any new students apart from those i have had previous contact with:

I am currently a third-year History and War Studies degree student; I have completed GCSEs and A-Levels in both History and Sociology. I will be starting a Schools Direct History teacher training course in September 2021, however, in the meantime, I am choosing to tutor as I cannot wait to begin teaching.

Sociology is my second subject, but I have experience tutoring it.
I have a particular interest in American History, however, I am also knowledgeable in other areas of history, so please enquire so that I can make sure that I can accommodate you before tutoring begins. Below you will find a list of modules that I have studied myself in the past.

Why I want to teach/tutor:
In 2017 I volunteered in my first secondary school for 3 months to find out whether or not teaching is something I wish to pursue as a career. Whilst I was volunteering in this school, I found a love for teaching and discovered the joy of watching students grow more confident with their studies.

Why History?
History is a beautiful subject that teaches us about the struggles of our ancestors and our past in general. There is no subject better equipped to inform future teachers, politicians, and journalists, etc. about the past. If our future academics and policymakers are unaware of the past then how are they going to change the future?

As I am still currently a student, I have chosen to charge slightly less than other tutors. My prices may increase as my qualifications grow. However, students will be informed of this in advance. I also negotiate my prices with students before lessons start, and I will charge you less than the price on my profile.

Modules I have studied myself:
GCSE:
-Germany 1919-1945
-Medicine Through Time
-Public Health in Britain 1800-1914

A-Level:
-The Early Stuarts and the Origins of the Civil War
-The U.S.A in the 19th Century: Westward Expansion and the Civil War 1803-1890
-Civil Rights in the USA 1865-1992

Degree:
-The Pursuit of History
-War and the Modern World
-Campaigning and Citizenship: Women in Britain and the Empire
-Thinking about War and Peace
-The Holocaust
-The Making of Modern Britain
-The Great War (WW1)
-The War in Europe (WW2)
-Revolutionary Ireland
-The Cold War
-Terrorism
-The Battle for Normandy

Topics that I will study in the academic year 2020-2021:
-The American Civil War
-Charity and Campaigning in Modern Britain and Empire
-From Unification to Auschwitz: Germany 1871-1945
-Dreadnought to Enterprise: Maritime Warfare c.1900 to the Present Day
-America: The Rise of a Superpower, 1890-1945
-Dissertation on the American Civil War

ONLINE TUITION ONLY DUE TO COVID-19

Availability: I am available Monday-Friday
I work on Weekends, but I am still open to tutoring on weekends. Weekend tutoring sessions need to be booked within 7 days before the appointment in order to ensure that I will be available for the session.

I will update my availability on my profile every Sunday evening for the following week (Monday-Sunday).

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: In 2017 I spent 3 months volunteering in a school’s history department, during this placement I would sit with students and help them with their work, answer any questions, and give them advice. Since this placement, I have visited more schools to carry out similar experiences.
I have also spent time helping out my friends and family with their studies regardless of subject or level, all of these people achieved the grades that they wanted to achieve.
Recently, I have been tutoring a handful of A-Level students online, this has involved teaching material, creating revision documents, marking exam papers, creating exam/essay advice documents, and just offering general help and support.
