Information about Hannah

I am currently finishing my PhD in Philosophy at Oxford University.

I have 5 years experience tutoring at university level, previously having taught a wide range of subjects in Philosophy including Logic (my speciality), Philosophy of Mind, Epistemology, Metaphysics, and Ethics, as well as tutored Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Biopsychology, Statistics, and Latin.

I have also lectured at undergraduate level in Critical Thinking and Logic.

I have an excellent success rate - everybody I have tutored privately (one-on-one or in small groups) has reached their goal, whether it was to pass or to gain an A. Almost every semester that I was employed by the university to teach a subject, my class achieved the highest average marks and the highest number of A`s.

I am from New Zealand, having moved to the UK in April 2012 to embark on the final year of my PhD, at Oxford University. I have a Bachelor`s degree in Psychology, and a Bachelor`s degree with First Class Honours in Philosophy, both from Otago University in New Zealand.

I spend about half my time in Oxford and half in London.

I am very patient, highly intelligent (I have been invited to join Mensa), I am passionate about teaching, and I get a lot of satisfaction from seeing my students progress. I am extremely good at explaining difficult concepts and I can quickly identify when students are having trouble and what their underlying misunderstandings/difficulties are. My teaching philosophy is to make sure the student truly understands what they are learning, rather than simply getting them to memorise enough to pass an exam, as I believe that with this solid foundation, all else follows smoothly, what they have learned is more valuable, and it is retained more permanently.

Feel free to contact me with any queries, and I look forward to speaking with you to discuss your (or your child`s) situation.

Availability: Very flexible, and I am happy to travel to anywhere in London I can get to on the tube!

Willing to travel: 10 miles

5/5 Rating

I cannot praise Hannah’s services highly enough.
She really knows her subject. I know this because it’s my field too (she’s tutoring my son).
Hannah is an excellent communicator. She gives clear information in tutorials, explaining jargon and tricky bits in an easy style. She is patient, firm, and friendly.
I could see from the tutorial records she had researched the exact course and exam requirements my son is doing. She gives very good feedback on his essays.
Making arrangements with Hannah has been sensible and straighforward.
Her fees are very fair.
