Information about Hilary
Thank you for inspiring a love of an amazing language (Year 10 student).
I am a recently retired, experienced Latin teacher. I aim to motivate and encourage by using interesting, entertaining and varied resources, delivering tuition in my own inimitable way caring, passionate, enthusiastic and a little bit off the wall.
My years of teaching experience have taught me the common problems that students find in their Latin studies and ways to surmount them. No student is the same, and I have found it important to tailor methods of teaching and learning to individual needs. This has included work with SEND and EAL students.
Availability: Weekdays - daytime and early evening

Experience: I graduated from the University of Cambridge with a Classics degree in 1978. Between 1978 and 2009 (with a career break whilst my children were young) I worked in the computer industry as a programmer, analyst, trainer and freelance consultant. In 2009 I decided to have a complete change of direction and gained a PGCE in Classics from Kings College, London.
Between 2010 and 2017 I was in charge of Latin teaching at Beaconsfield High School, a girls grammar school in Buckinghamshire. I was successful in doubling the number of students choosing to study Latin at GCSE over the course of my 7 years at the school and in achieving excellent results at GCSE and A Level.
