Information about Florence
I am an enthusiastic and patient tutor, hoping to foster an interest and passion for learning.
I am currently a PhD student at The Courtauld Institute of Art, specialising in social history and medieval art, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. I completed my interdisciplinary humanities masters degree in Medieval Studies at the University of Oxford, for which I held a full scholarship (Clarendon Scholarship), specialising in medieval art and English literature. I have a First Class Honours degree in History of Art from The Courtauld, receiving a prize (The Sam Fogg Prize) for my dissertation on medieval art. I also achieved straight A/A* grades at GCSE and A Level.

Experience: I have been a tutor for five years, specialising in primary learning, English, and History of Art. I have helped students pass their GCSE English (one having failed three times, others being predicted grades 2-4) and others get into the schools they wanted to for senior school or A Level. I have also helped students achieve A* level in History of Art and English at A Level.
Previously, I volunteered at a local primary school for two years. I read with the children aged 5-7 during my lunch hour every week, and often helped those most struggling during class activities. I tried hard to encourage a passion for reading, either for sheer pleasure or to learn about the subjects they most enjoyed. It was so rewarding to help the children learn, seeing them become more and more passionate as they found the work easier and easier with improvement week by week.
I worked for Kumon Maths and English for two years with children aged 2-14. I have found the most rewarding part of the process to be locating the students specific weaknesses and helping them to improve. I find watching the development of the childrens communicative and intellectual skills hugely fulfilling. Again, my main aim is to encourage an interest in the subject they study, as I believe this is the key to academic improvement.
