Information about Mathilda

I have recently graduated with a Masters in Architecture from the Royal College of Art (RCA). My MA thesis was shortlisted to represent the RCA for the Royal Institute of British Architects President`s Medal.

Prior to beginning my architectural education I completed an art foundation course at Kingston University specialising in fine art. I graduated from the University of Sheffield with a Ba in Architecture in 2017. Since graduating I have worked as a part one architectural assistant for dMFK Architects in London and been involved with a range of housing, office and interior fit out projects. In 2018 I worked as the production designer for the development and shooting of short film Cherry Bomb alongside friends who specialise in different disciplines.

My thesis this year was initiated by the investigative research piece carried out in 2019 for my dissertation that examined how the squatting communities in Vauxhall have shaped the contemporary landscape. The project conceives an intervention that takes precedent from the squatting communities of the late 20th century as a form of re-enactment. Cultivated as reprisal and in response to the long period of land banked neglect of sites that are due to be developed. Establishing scenarios for alternative forms of practice away from developer driven projects and instead centred on activism and civilian agency. The work explored design at a 1:1 scale through the development of wearable objects in a range of materials whilst also utilising film through digital animation and object documentation.

Experience: I feel confident to guide written work in regards to content, research methods, grammar and structure. My written work achieved a first class standard for every piece completed during my undergraduate programme. During my Masters my dissertation was awarded with a distinction and was shortlisted for the RIBA Presidents Medal. My History and Theory essay written this year was among those chosen for a curated selection of the work.

I can assist with technical studies work and help to direct you towards alternative sources of information, unconventional ideas and help to develop your projects. My technical studies journal completed as part of the RCA MA requirements was selected from my year as a demonstrative piece for the following cohort.

I have a strong experience with design and craft as my practice has a focus on making. I work with a range of materials including fabrics, wood, paper, bioplastics, metal, and wool. My design and craft has a focus on sustainable design practice.
