Information about Alex

Fully qualified teacher of Science and Maths since 2008 and lots of experience with AQA, OCR, EDEXCEL and GLA.

I offer students the opportunity to ask questions and discuss topics and to build their confidence through extra practice with key topics.

I start by assessing the current areas of need and from there agree on a plan of action with the student.

I focus on "high-value" areas of learning - i.e. those which occur frequently in exams and also those fundamental concepts which underpin the understanding of a subject in general. This leads to good results and also sustained confidence building.

Exam strategy is also hugely important as many students need to practice how to answer questions in a more focused way that demonstrates the knowledge they have. This is especially true for the 11 Plus exam, which extends beyond the KS2 experience of learning and assessment.

My degree is in Analytical Chemistry (1st class), I also have the Glasson Memorial Prize for Chemistry (2003). I gained a merit in my PGCE but although academic achievement is a key skill of mine, I am interested in all students, and my focus is on the person and their needs.

Therefore I have a wide range of experience in tuition and teaching, including SEN students with multiple needs and students who are unable to access mainstream education for various reasons, and spanning the age range from KS2 to degree level studies!

ON-LINE TUTORING:

I recommend on-line tuition to all A-Level pupils, and I am currently offering a £10 discount spread over the first 2 sessions.

With on-line tuition the key advantages are that:

* I have much more resources at my disposal and can access them for whatever direction the tuition goes off in.
* You get to save my lessons, notes, corrections etc for your own revision.
* Distance is no problem.
* Session timings can be more flexible.

We have used Alex for our Sons GCSE preparation since Sept 2016 for both Maths and Sciences. By the end of 2016 our Son had progressed up to the second from top set in Maths, his mock exams produced some A* grades in his Sciences, Alex certainly got our Son motivated and the confidence he needed to go into the exams.
He has just finished his exams now with a confidence in his ability that we have not seen before, absolutely no doubt down to Alex`s dedication and teaching methods, fully explained and methodical allowing the pupil to learn without getting confused...the use of past exam papers and a sound knowledge of exam boards...brilliant Alex thank you.
Will update when we know the results.

Alex has only just started helping my son but is very good, explains things clearly and sets him work to do in between sessions.

Alex has been tutoring Lewis for his sciences and has been a fantastic teacher. Lewis lacked some self-confidence with his sciences and Alex has not only give him the confidence but also improve his grades overall. Lewis has also found Alex very easy to understand and explains in a very clear way when he has struggled with a particular subject in class. I cannot fault Alex in anyway and I am happy to highly recommend him.

My daughter needed some extra help with maths leading up to GCSEs. Alex was able to explain what was confusing her in a way she could understand. He brought past papers of the relevant exam board, working through to see what she knew and then helping with the bits she was unsure of. He also helped her with exam technique. She said Alex was able to explain things well and is now feeling more confident about the exam

I would recommend Alex. My daughter believes she is now finding physics easier to understand and making better progress.

Thanks to Alex my son went up a grade so achieved his GCSE maths and his statistics at `C` grade this year. This would have not have been possible without these extra sessions. Alex is patient and came prepared to sessions going over exam questions making sure that my son could gain the extra marks he would need to achieve. Very accommodating arranging sessions in the half term to maximise time we had before the exam.
A very big thank you

Alex started tutoring my son in Febuary of this year. My son is very keen on Maths and Science so I initailly contacted him with the view to develop my son`s education in these two key areas. However after assessing his capabilities he recognised potential for my son to achieve his 11+ and they are now working together with this goal in mind.

I have found Alex polite, punctual and friendly. He has a very good rapport with my son and appears to understand him very well. Alex has facilitated self motivation in my son to the extent that he has chosen the path he wishes his education to follow, demonstrating great maturity for a child so young.

Since starting tuition with Alex my son has improved both in Maths and English as well as Science, achieving well above the national average in his SATs. I would also say that he appears to have grown in confidence.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Alex as a tutor for your child.

Although it is early days (only 3 sessions so far), I am delighted with how things are going with Alex. He has a quiet and gentle manner, and is reliable, personable and seems to have engaged very well with my son who is taking GCSE Chemistry later this year. Alex always gives feedback after the session which is most useful and it seems he already has the measure of my son! From what I have seen to date, I would wholly recommend Alex to others looking for a tutor.
