Teaching Science and Maths since 2008 and experienced with all the boards - AQA, OCR, EDEXCEL at GCSE & A-Level.
My focus is on building confidence, through practice and clearing up any areas of confusion, my key objectives are to
1. Assess the current areas of need.
2. Create a plan of action.
3. Focus on high-value areas of learning - i.e. those which underpin understanding in other topics and topics which occur frequently in the final exams.
I aim to deliver clear explanations within the context of Exam Questions, followed up with Memory booster questions as we progress.
Exam strategy is also hugely important for most pupils who often need to get to grips with how to ensure their answers are truly demonstrating their actual knowledge.
My degree is in Analytical Chemistry (1st class), I also have the Glasson Memorial Prize for Chemistry (2003).
Although academic achievement is a key skill of mine, I am interested in all students, and my focus is on the person and their needs.
Therefore I have a wide range of experience, including SEN students with multiple needs and spanning the range from KS2 to degree level studies!

review(s) for Alex.
Although it is early days (only 3 sessions so far), I am delighted with how things are going with Alex. He has a quiet and gentle manner, and is reliable, personable and seems to have engaged very well with my son who is taking GCSE Chemistry later this year. Alex always gives feedback after the session which is most useful and it seems he already has the measure of my son! From what I have seen to date, I would wholly recommend Alex to others looking for a tutor.
Alex started tutoring my son in Febuary of this year. My son is very keen on Maths and Science so I initailly contacted him with the view to develop my son`s education in these two key areas. However after assessing his capabilities he recognised potential for my son to achieve his 11+ and they are now working together with this goal in mind.
I have found Alex polite, punctual and friendly. He has a very good rapport with my son and appears to understand him very well. Alex has facilitated self motivation in my son to the extent that he has chosen the path he wishes his education to follow, demonstrating great maturity for a child so young.
Since starting tuition with Alex my son has improved both in Maths and English as well as Science, achieving well above the national average in his SATs. I would also say that he appears to have grown in confidence.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Alex as a tutor for your child.
Thanks to Alex my son went up a grade so achieved his GCSE maths and his statistics at `C` grade this year. This would have not have been possible without these extra sessions. Alex is patient and came prepared to sessions going over exam questions making sure that my son could gain the extra marks he would need to achieve. Very accommodating arranging sessions in the half term to maximise time we had before the exam.
A very big thank you
I would recommend Alex. My daughter believes she is now finding physics easier to understand and making better progress.
My daughter needed some extra help with maths leading up to GCSEs. Alex was able to explain what was confusing her in a way she could understand. He brought past papers of the relevant exam board, working through to see what she knew and then helping with the bits she was unsure of. He also helped her with exam technique. She said Alex was able to explain things well and is now feeling more confident about the exam
We have met Alex for a introduction. Alex will be tutoring my daughter from next term .
We found Alex to be a very nice person he was so patient with us and very informative. We are looking forward to him helping our daughter .
Alex has been tutoring Lewis for his sciences and has been a fantastic teacher. Lewis lacked some self-confidence with his sciences and Alex has not only give him the confidence but also improve his grades overall. Lewis has also found Alex very easy to understand and explains in a very clear way when he has struggled with a particular subject in class. I cannot fault Alex in anyway and I am happy to highly recommend him.
Alex has only just started helping my son but is very good, explains things clearly and sets him work to do in between sessions.
