Information about Louise
I am a professional tutor who works well with teenagers.
I specialise in A-Level and GCSE English. If students have disappointing grades or want more challenging approaches to reaching top grades, I help them develop their skills. Studying texts involves decent analytical and writing skills as well as independent thought. I teach these techniques; we set goals and reach them.
By the end of the first lesson, I will have a clear understanding of the student`s learning needs so that we can agree on how to continue. With my support, students motivate themselves to be creative and disciplined. Students of all abilities usually discover that they actually enjoy analysing texts and working with language. They are then equipped to meet the exam board assessment objectives and get good grades.
Prior to qualifying as a teacher in 2011, I wrote publicity material in the communications/public relations industry, and can show students how to write clearly.
I have an Enhanced DBS Certificate.
My students come from all types of schools and colleges, including: Fortismere School, JFS, Highgate School, Highgate Wood School, UCS, Wren Academy, Queen Elizabeth`s School Barnet (QEB), John Lyon School, Camden School for Girls, City of London School for Girls, City of London School for Boys, The Latymer School, City & Islington 6th Form College, North Bridge House School, South Hampstead High School, La Sainte Union, London Oratory 6th Form, Lycée Charles de Gaulle, St Marylebone School, Southgate School, Mill Hill County School, Mill Hill School, Channing School, Haberdashers` Aske`s Boys` School, Haberdashers` Aske`s School for Girls, Parliament Hill School.
Availability: Monday to Thursday as well as weekends. Please be aware that I teach from my home in Finchley Central.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I trained at the University of London`s Institute of Education and at City & Islington Sixth Form College.
I have a number of GCSE English students who intend to take Sciences and Mathematics at A-Level, and who said at the first lesson that they disliked studying English, particularly poetry. After a while, they discover that they quite like reading poetry and analysing texts. They also discover that being able to express themselves clearly in writing is not the futile activity that they originally thought.
I also teach highly motivated GCSE students who have chosen English as an A-Level option, and A-Level students who plan to study English at university.
Here are some testimonials from current and former students:

"Without Louise our daughter would not even have passed her English GCSEs. With Louise, our daughter began to enjoy English, looked forward to tutorials and understood what was needed to achieve. She also really enjoyed handing in a higher standard of homework. She improved in other subjects too because she learned from Louise how to tackle difficult questions logically and analytically. Louise is one of the very best tutors - head and shoulders above all we have used over the years."
2017 parent of GCSE student, Fortismere School
"Louise also allows you to think and does not mind going over something a thousand times if she has to, as long as it will help you. So I want to thank her one more time and recommend her to everyone."
