Information about Dan
**Currently fully booked but check back in future**
I`m a friendly and reliable PhD student with a passion for Maths, Art and Science. I am based at Rothamsted Research where I am working on the causes of the declines and population shifts of moths in the UK and ways in which agricultural policy can be improved for biodiversity.
I have a first class BSc in Conservation Biology and an MSc in Applied Ecology (University of Exeter). I also have a Foundation Diploma in Art (University College Falmouth).
Between 2014 and 2015, I worked as Terrestrial Science Manager with an ecological research project in Madagascar, leading and instructing teams of volunteers. Prior to this, I worked in a laboratory as an entomological research assistant.
I am a proficient artist and author of several illustrated travel journals of which I sell copies. I am familiar with a range of media, including oils, charcoal, pastels, and sketching.
As a tutor, I have a lot of patience as well as the ability to break down complex concepts into manageable parts. I am receptive to the needs of each student, and happy to work with the input of parents.
My passion for education comes from a love of these subjects, and I hope to inspire this enthusiasm in all of those I tutor.
Availability: Fully booked at present but I may become available in future
Willing to travel: 3 miles
Experience: In addition to freelance work with a range of individual students, I have been responsible for tuition within a variety of roles:
As Terrestrial Science Manager with a research project in Madagascar, I delivered training to individuals and groups of volunteers, from the ages of 18 up to 73. I planned and delivered lessons and led informal study sessions, as well as implementing internal tests.
As Taxonomic Assistant at the University of Exeter, I led demonstrations and training for Undergraduate students in the Biology Department.
In 2013-14, I ran a series of interactive sessions with children aged 5-12, introducing them to different types of insect. This included millipedes, tarantulas, scorpions, and giant stick insects. As you can imagine, this required excellent behaviour management skills! The sessions were both educational and fun, and challenged me to adapt my approach according to the different age groups.
