I qualified with a Ph.D in Experimental Nuclear Physics from the University of Liverpool, 2002.
I have always had a passion for STEM subjects and teaching. After finishing my Ph.D in 2002, I went to work at the University of Jyvaskyla, in central Finland. My work involved many things, but the supervising and tutoring of students was always a pleasure and never a chore. It is something I have always been praised for as my students always did well. I believe every student is different and in order for them to achieve their full potential you have see them as such and try different approaches until the light bulb moment arrives. After that they need to be guided until in the end they are ready to walk their path alone. It’s not just about the subject it’s about mindset and then the subject matter. I know from experience that an unhappy mind does not do well in exams or life, no matter what your IQ!
After returning to the UK last summer and taking time to organise my life here, I am now hoping to share my enthusiasm for STEM subjects with all age ranges. I have chosen to tutor Maths and Physics in order to achieve a work - life balance that enables me to have time for my 2 girls.
Being a female Scientist I am aware of conscious and unconscious gender bias and strive to promote a fair and equal education for all, advocating resilience and determination of the individual not matter who they are.
I am DBS checked.

Availability: I am available from 9am to 8pm

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I have nearly 20 years experience tutoring people of years 18+, on a 1-2-1 or small group basis and recently have gained experience in secondary school teaching and also had the pleasure of talking to year 5 students at the local Junior school during science week. I thoroughly enjoyed this experience as did the children judging from their attention and enthusiasm during the session and after it. What child doesn’t want to learn about Alchemy!
