Information about Theofanis

Dear student and parent,

Thanks for stopping by my profile.

My name is Dr. Theofanis .
I am a Ph.D. graduate in Mathematics with several years of teaching experience at all levels.

Let me tell you a few things about myself.

In April 2014 I was awarded a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Royal Holloway University of London for a thesis entitled "Maximal Subgroups of Branch Groups". Prior to my graduate studies, I completed an MSc in Mathematics at the Queen Mary University of London and Imperial College. Moreover, I have pursued a BSc (First Class Honors) in Mathematics with Applied Economics at Kingston University London.

It is widely accepted that students often complain about the quality of teaching in Mathematics.

My teaching philosophy focuses on trying to answer the following questions:

1. What is the idea behind a specific mathematical concept ?
2. Where can it be used in "real" life ?
3. What transferable skills can be gained by understanding the concept ?

Most of the times the student is given a number of definitions, followed by some examples on the blackboard and finally a set of exercises for homework.

This is exactly how I was taught mathematics myself.

The fact is that every student is different in terms of background, educational experiences and aspirations.

I provide tailored services according to the individual`s level
and needs.
