Information about Mark

I am an advanced skills teacher with extensive experience teaching Biology and Chemistry at A Level and GCSE. I also work as a senior examiner for two of the major exam boards and regularly write questions for GCSE and A Level Biology and Chemistry exams.

Following graduation I completed the Teach First graduate programme and went on to teach Biology and Chemistry at a variety of secondary schools and sixth form colleges. More recently I have returned to university to study Medicine and am therefore ideally placed to guide aspiring students through the medical/dental application process.

I am happy to discuss a discounted rate for any student looking for tuition sessions >90 minutes in length

For your peace of mind, I have an Enhanced DBS check and am happy to bring along my certificate to our first meeting.

Availability: I can be quite flexible and will always attempt to meet the requirements of a potential tutee.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I have worked as an advanced skills teacher (AST) for more than 10 years and have a wealth of experience teaching Biology and Chemistry at A Level and GCSE. I have taught in some of the best schools in London, but also in some of the most challenging, which has allowed me to develop strategies to get the very best out of students from a range of different backgrounds. I have an exceptional track record with students of all abilities, having helped to motivate and stretch the brightest students with aspirations to study at the most competitive universities as well as those who are struggling with Biology/Chemistry or who may have experienced previous failure in the subjects.

I have also worked as a senior examiner for two of the major exam boards for more than 5 years and regularly help to write papers for GCSE and A Level Biology and Chemistry exams. These experiences have allowed me to gain an excellent understanding of how students are assessed and the mistakes which tend to prevent them from realising their potential. Few tutors are able to offer this level of insight.

I currently tutor students across a wide range of syllabuses, including A Level (AQA, OCR and Edexcel), Cambridge Pre U and International Baccalaureate.

I have a relaxed, yet focused teaching style and am hugely approachable. It is important to me that my tutees feel comfortable, confident and happy to express their thoughts and opinions. I prefer to teach in an active manner, using diagrams and modelling where appropriate, but am more than happy to adapt to the requirements of individual tutees.

My extensive experience as a teacher means I can effectively assess the level that my tutees are working at, identifying areas that require attention quickly.

Experience has taught me the importance of helping my tutees to develop their ability to communicate their understanding in written form, which is usually how they are assessed.

A great tutor, really knows Biology and comes prepared. Our child responded really well to him and she got the result she needed thanks to him. We are now in the process of using his tutoring services long term. Thanks Mark
