Information about Katie

I`m a 29 year old student tutor specialising in maths and science at GCSE level. I studied Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry at A Level, achieving A*AAA respectively. I then attended the university of Oxford for just over a year, studying geophysics, however did not enjoy my course, and chose to move to the university of Exeter. I graduated in 2018 with a 1st class degree with honours in Conservation Biology and Ecology and Ecology, and started a masters in the following September, for which I am predicted a Distinction. In October 2019 I started a PhD in Statistics at the university of Kent, specialising in reintroductions of endangered species.

Due to recent experience of the changes to the UK education system, I have a key insight into current exam structure and key skills required for success. I believe the key to effective tutoring is identifying areas of difficulty and practicing the techniques required for these areas. Exam techniques, such as time management, are also crucial for maths and science subjects therefore I strive to give advice and practice in these areas.

I have experience teaching students with disabilities such as anxiety, dyslexia and Asperger`s.

Availability: I am currently taking on new students in the Bristol area.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I have been tutoring since February 2015 and have taught over 45 students. I spent a month teaching English as a foreign language in South Korea in 2014, which, despite not being my specialist area, taught me important teaching techniques and structures, which I have applied to my specialist area. I am was also a student mentor and provide peer support for first year students at the University of Exeter and assist with teaching in the Mathematics department at the University of Kent.

Katie helped our son with his GCSE maths and I would definitely recommend her. She was always punctual, friendly, flexible and worked hard for the full hour.
Our son found her very beneficial and actually came out with a Grade 8 so thank you Katie - you are a star!!
