Information about Andrew

Written by F H "Great tutor, engaging, reliable, wonderful communicator with clear explanations."

I have been tutoring professionally for 10 years both in person and online via skype using an interactive white board. I am also a teacher Londons top independent 6th form college giving me access to a huge range of resources other tutors will not have access to.

I graduated from the University of Manchester as a Master of Chemistry in 2010.Despite numerous publications of my research work in prominent science journals, above all, I consider myself to be very much a people person. Rather than spending my career in the lab with glass wear as my only friends I made the decision 5 years ago to tutor Chemistry full time and am truly loving it.

Within that time I have enjoyed an average 3 grade improvement (eg. D to A) from all of my former students. This ability to boost grades and confidence has been reinforced by my time as an official marker of IGCSE and A-level papers. I understand exactly what is required from a student and how to make the examiners job an easy one!

Having initially struggled with Chemistry myself, I can empathise with a students frustrations. I approach all lessons with energy and passion and believe I can turn around a student’s opinion on Chemistry by humanising the subject and drawing parallels to what the student study’s in the class room to what they experience in everyday life. Once a student realises the huge relevance Chemistry has, understanding the abstract concepts and calculations becomes easy and even fun! Regardless of a students enthusiasm, I strive to instil a thorough understanding of all areas of the subject enabling them to obtain good results and a sense of achievement through their own skill and ability. It is such a rewarding feeling telling the parents of a student that their son/daughter no longer requires private tuition. It sounds strange to say but I strive to make myself redundant!

Whilst not teaching I lead science based tours around Iceland. The science behind its awe-inspiring landscapes has provided the perfect educational resource to rouse an interest from my home tuition students. Whilst on tour I have had the honour of meeting the president of Iceland, NASA scientists and even Barrack Obamas chief science advisor Harvard physicist John P. Holdren.

I am also a passionate musician and the founder of London`s largest free music festival, the Marshall amps Hanwell Hootie! This year we enjoyed our largest festival to date with 21,000 attendees This has led lead to extensive coverage on BBC6 music, NME and the Evening Standard. I am also a keen sportsman, playing tennis and football twice weekly.
