Hello, my name is Midori and I am a professional cellist, pianist and teacher. If you`d like to experience the joy of playing the cello or piano at any level, look no further!

If you would like to improve your Japanese, or start on the basics, I can also help you with this. I offer lessons in my home in South London, and am willing to travel around London.

Availability: My schedule is flexible and any lessons can be fitted around your timetable.

Experience: I simply love sharing the fun of playing the cello to children and adults of all ages, and all abilities, and I have five years of experience teaching the cello both privately and in schools in London. My lessons are carefully tailored to suit each pupil’s needs and I am quick to assess different learning styles, sourcing the best pieces, exercises, games, studies, and practice techniques to enhance yours of your child’s cello playing and enjoyment of music.

I have a relaxed, comfortable, and fun approach to teaching and all my pupils will feel supported, listened to and clearly led by my teaching. My pupils always have a good time, and are connected to what it means to enjoy playing the cello.

My students have achieved Distinction in their grade exams, ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 8. I have a realistic, knowledgeable, and success-oriented outlook to the ABRSM or Trinity/Guildhall grade exam systems so if you or your child would like to work towards gaining some qualifications, do please get in touch!

I trained at the Royal Academy of Music, where I gained Distinction in my MA in Cello Performance in 2016. Prior to this, I received First Class Honors in my Bachelor of Music degree at Kings College London.

I work as a freelance cellist, singer and composer, performing in orchestral, folk, jazz, improvisatory and theatrical settings, including previously as singer, cellist and Musical Director in Macbeth and King Lear at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. I tour as the cellist and backing vocalist for Heather Nova, and have recorded cello for the Glass Animals, and cello and vocals for Sims 4.
