I am an English teacher with Qualified Teaching and Learning status, who has been teaching for 8 years. I have a Masters degree in Modern and Contemporary Literature and I am very passionate about motivating and inspiring young people through teaching literature. I received a Distinction for my teaching practice by the University of Warwick while studying for my Diploma in Education and Training, which was assessed through 8 observations over two years. I have been tutoring online for the past 3 years.

I enjoy teaching creatively, stimulating learning in a lively and fun way through use of film, images, poetry and drawing on contemporary issues to help young people see the relevance of what they are learning. As my experience is mainly in alternative provisions with small class groups, my focus has always been on differentiation and tailoring my tuition to address an individuals needs.

I find online tuition extremely effective, as it allows a relaxed and safe environment providing the ideal learning experience and fostering confidence. I enjoy the privilege of helping all students succeed, and realise their goals.

I have four students who I currently tutor at the weekends, two of which are studying for their GCSE in English language, and two of which who are at Key Stage 3. One learner who I have been tutoring for the past 18 months has moved from a predicted grade 3 at GCSE to a predicted grade of 5.

Availability: I am currently available to tutor during the evening (5:30pm-8pm) and at weekends from midday.

Experience: I currently teach English at a Pupil Referral Unit in South East London. Prior to this, I taught young offenders in a custodial setting for 3 years. I also previously worked as an Associate Tutor for BPP University, teaching postgraduates on an employability module, designed to support them into meaningful work placements.

My experience also includes working with children with learning difficulties and SEN-Special Educational Needs as well as Social, Emotional and mental health needs.

I own a certified Therapy Dog, who has been working alongside me with young people, helping to lower anxiety and improve engagement with challenging work.
