I currently hold the position of a Research Scientist at Sci-Tech Daresbury. I graduated with a BSc degree in Biochemistry from the University of Manchester and then went on to study for a Masters in Translational Medicine. I have three yearsí experience of working as a scientist and a passion for science and research! I have also worked as a Peer Support Mentor and Student Ambassador whilst at university, during which I facilitated peer support to 1st and 2nd year Life Sciences students to develop learning strategies. For this, I received extensive training from the University of Manchester to be able to provide targeted advice and arranging one-to-one tutoring sessions to monitor their performance.
My teaching strategy is not only making things easy, simple and clear but also teaching some extra skills required for the exam to gain the highest possible marks. All my classes are individually pre-planned to ensure my students get the most out of their sessions. My classes improve a studentís scientific understanding whilst explaining how to apply this knowledge in the exam context as well as thoroughly following exam specifications.
As an ex-student, I understand that sometimes it may be difficult to understand harder concepts when teachers try to explain them in class. Sometimes it is easier to speak to a peer or a young person, who you may be able to relate to you and explain these concepts in a much simpler way.
Having achieved top grades in science at school and college, I believe I am in a strong position to share my knowledge. I am very much aware of exam challenges and can provide honest tips to help get through these exams. When I meet a new student I assess a studentís level and areas that need to be developed. My teaching methods are flexible and adaptive to suit each studentís needs.
