Information about Annie

I graduated from the University of Cambridge with a double first for my BA in English, and with a distinction for my MPhil in English (Eighteenth Century and Romantic Studies). I am now a fully funded, third year PhD student in English at Birkbeck College, University of London, where I also teach literature and critical theory for the BA English course. As a younger student I attended a comprehensive secondary school in Grays, Essex, before moving to Devon to study for my A Levels at a Further Education college (English Language, English Literature, Sociology, Government & Politics, Critical Thinking).

Availability: Occasional weekdays, evenings, weekends

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I am an open and enthusiastic researcher and an attentive tutor. For younger students I enjoy tailoring lessons which pair a focus on comprehension and creative writing with engaging material practices like printing and book-making. For older students, my tuition facilitates wide reading and critical thinking. After each session I send a de-brief email to parents and/or students highlighting what material was covered in the lesson, learning objectives, outcomes and a plan for the next session: I am happy to work with parents and/or students to develop specific sessions suited to particular needs, abilities and enjoyments. I am happy to work with materials from school which students feel they need extra help with, or to supply different, supplementary material. I am also happy to discuss payment for essay marking outside of or instead of one-to-one tuition, and to offer 90 minute sessions at a reduced rate.

As well as a broad range of employment experience in libraries and archives I have written and facilitated training programmes and workshops for various local and national charities and government departments, and university-level reading groups. I was also part of the access team within Cambridge University Students` Union.

While I always tailor sessions to the needs of individual students - and as such do offer general university admissions advice as part of specific academic tutoring sessions - I do not offer coaching for Oxbridge interviews or entrance exams.

5/5 Rating

I am very pleased to write about Ms Marianne (Ms Annie). She is an excellent English tutor for my daughter Divya who was in her year 3/4. Divya made superb progress especially in comprehension and creative writing. Annie was very friendly with my daughter and yet she was quite strict at the same time and knew to carefully make my daughter focus back into the subject. It was a shame that we could not continue as she focused more on her university study. I and my wife would recommend Ms Annie without any hesitation. We wish Annie well in her studies.
