Information about Katharine

Hello -

I am a friendly and approachable East London-based tutor. I am enthusiastic about English literature and the English language as well as being an experienced musician, with additional interests and experience in the social sciences. I have just graduated from the University of Oxford with an MSc in Education (Higher Education), and I recently completed my undergraduate degree in English at the University of Exeter, where I was a music scholar.

My studies and research in both the Humanities and the Social Sciences means I have a wealth of experience I am able to draw on. I went to school in West Oxfordshire, and am familiar with current A Level and GCSE syllabuses.

In my undergraduate I supported peers in my own year through study groups, and worked as a peer mentor for first-years. In my current degree, I have offered English language support for my classmates who are not native English speakers as well as additional advice and support in English literature and essay writing for students in my college from a variety of disciplines.

Through my current degree, research interests and work experience I am also able to help with advice for university applications, especially applications in the humanities and social sciences.

I can not praise Katharine highly enough. She is professional, efficient and punctual with a lovely calming and relaxed manner. Katharine has an unusual ability to pinpoint a student`s needs and put them at their ease. Most importantly, she is able to explain in a way that they can actually understand, thus immediately giving a student a sense of confidence in their abilities where there was none. She is very well informed and up to date regarding the exam boards and the details of what examiners are looking for, and how questions are marked.
