Information about Christiana

Hey! Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Welcome to my Tutor Hunt page!

In this bio, I will try to tell you a bit about my background, why I am here, what you should expect from me during our lessons, my interests and my teaching style.

Background:
I come from Athens, Greece, I am a native speaker of Greek, fluent speaker of English and I have a passion for learning. Learning takes place in many contexts, happens in many different ways, and comes in a plethora of shapes and forms. My passion for learning has led me during the last 10 years to successfully complete a bachelor`s degree in Greece and a master`s degree in the UK and be involved in various environments (primary and secondary state schools, supplementary schools, special education settings, online learning environments) where I was able to teach, mentor, guide and effectively support students to achieve their best.

Why I am here:
Online teaching is not something new to me. I have had a very positive experience teaching English to students studying for their GCSEs for the academic year 2017-2018. I specifically enjoy online tutoring because I am able to do what I love most without the pressure, limitations and the strictly specified curriculum that state and private schools often have. By working as an independent teacher, I am able to place my students` needs at the heart of my teaching methods, work flexible hours as well as meet people who are keen to learn Greek which is what I like to teach the most!

What you should expect from me during our lessons:
Firstly, we will assess your level of knowledge of the Greek Language together and agree on what goals you wish to achieve through our lessons. Based on the aforementioned, I will design a learning programme that will be tailored to your individual needs. Through this programme, I will support you to achieve what you prefer to achieve through our lessons eg. become better at speaking Greek. The teaching methods and materials that will be used in order for you to succeed are inspired or directly come from my experience teaching Greek as a second language and published books that are widely used within the community of teaching Greek as a second language in the UK.

My interests:
In my free time, I enjoy listening to podcasts about astronomy, history, artificial intelligence while yoga, meditation and baking are some of my recently acquired hobbies. Additionally, I like cycling, listening to music, meeting friends, cooking and painting.

My teaching style:
I aspire to work collaboratively with my students who I view and treat as my equals.
To achieve this, I design my lessons with attention to who my students are and what they need. I also use regular feedback from my students and see myself as a facilitator rather than a lecturer. In other words, I aim to provide you with the right toolbox for you to help you become an independent thinker and user of the Greek language.
