Information about Elizabeth

I have been in love with languages since I was nine years old and have pursued a career as a translator and art historian. I am an independent scholar living in Bloomsbury.

I hold degrees from the universities of Sheffield, London and Warwick. I have given papers at international conferences on aspects of Italian medieval art (most recently “The Perugia Fountain: Gender and Civic Identity” at “Gebrauch und Symbolik des Wassers in der mittelalterlichen Kultur”, 16. Symposium des Mediävistenverbandes, Bern, 22-25 March, 2015) . I have published articles in English and Italian on Italian medieval art for scholarly journals.

Former fellow at the Nederlands Interuniversitair Kunsthistorisch Insituut (research into Italian prelate tombs before 1400), Florence, January to March 1998 recipient of an award from the Society of Antiquaries of London (William Lambarde Memorial Fund) March 2012.

I have many years of residential experience in France, Italy and Germany where I translated, taught English, and pursued research into Italian medieval sculpture.

I am a full member of the following professional bodies: the Association of Art Historians, Episcopus: Society for the Study of Episcopal Power & Culture in the Middle Ages, the Mediävistenverband, the Institute of Linguists, the Institute of Translation and Interpreting and the Association for Language Learning.

As a freelance translator I cover a range of art historical, cultural heritage and legal subjects.

Availability: I cover all aspects of language teaching but I am not currently au fait with school examination syllabuses. If you are unsure of your preferred approach discussion during an initial lesson will clarify this. Some people prefer a communicative approach while others like to work systematically through course books and grammars. It is quite possible to become an independent learner. Often it works well to have a suite of lessons and then return for tuition on an occasional basis. Constancy is the key!

Willing to travel: 1 miles

Experience: My teaching experience includes the following: -
“Lettore” at the University of Bologna
Part-time lecturer in Italian for the post-graduate course in Specialised and Technical Translation at the University of Westminster.
« Assistante d`anglais » at Collège La Glacière, Bordeaux, France
« Institutrice d`anglais » at École Ste-Marguerite, Ouradour-sur-Glane, near Limoges, France
Wide experience in teaching EFL, mostly in the private sector, in France, Italy and Germany.
I have also taught English as a foreign language in various schools in central London, e.g. Mayfair School of English,[contact detail removed]
