Information about Alex

Having had several tutors growing up, I understand how difficult it can be to struggle with a subject and how integral the role of a good tutor can be in achieving academic success. Therefore, as a graduate with an excitement for learning, I am keen to help students not only improve their grades, but find a way to fully engage with and enjoy the process.

In terms of my academic background, I have a BA in English (2.1) from the University of Leicester, and an MSc in Built Environment: Sustainable Heritage (Distinction). With such varying degrees, I am very flexible when it comes to learning styles as I understand the difference competencies required of varying disciplines (e.g. humanities and sciences).

A Levels - A* English Literature, B Creative Writing, B Psychology

Availability: My schedule is quite full at the moment, so it would be better if you message to arrange a time.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: Since graduating in November 2019, I have been working as a private tutor in English Literature and English Language. Predominantly, I teach underachieving GCSE and A-Level students, with an emphasis on bolstering enthusiasm and exam preparation. As a result, I am well versed on the most popular texts and assessment objectives for AQA and Edexcel exam boards.

As far as experience with working with pupils KS3 and below, for the past year I have volunteered with children aged 8-13 for The Literacy Pirates. Here, I work one-to-one with children from disadvantaged backgrounds, helping to improve their literacy levels. Transferable skills mostly pertain to perseverance and skilful communication, as I aim to continuously motivate and build up a child’s confidence, to make each session fun and productive. For this, I received a Jack Petchy Award to acknowledge how much I put into supporting the children.
