Information about Joslin

I am a tutor who has been in the education sector for 7 years.
I was initially a TA at several schools, before completing my PGCE at King`s College London in 2015. The university received an Outstanding from Ofsted for the training it provides during that time.
Since then, I have taught at a secondary school which has been rated Outstanding since 2012. In my time there I have delivered outstanding results, and have continuously received professional development in regards to subject knowledge and teaching and learning.
I am passionate about mathematics, in particular the problem solving aspect of the subject. I believe any student can get the satisfaction of solving problems, and aim to build students confidence, regardless of ability.
With my outstanding results, and experience, I have a proven track record in preparing students for their exams, building the necessary problem skills, and knowing how to revise effectively.

Availability: I am flexible, and available to tutor for students for 11+ exams, GCSE and A-level maths (including further maths)

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: Teacher of mathematics at an outstanding school for 5 years. During my time at the school I was Key Stage 3 coordinator and Assistant Head of Year.
In my time as Key Stage 3 coordinator I wrote a new scheme of work, designed new homework and assessments, and implemented more problem solving into students learning.
I have delivered outstanding GCSE and A-level results, up to and including further mathematics. In the previous academic year, my Y11 Set 2 class got the highest number of 9s achieved by similar sets from previous years.
I started "problem solving club" at the school, which improved our results in the nationally recognised UKMT maths challenge.
With my experience, I am able to teach students of all ranges and abilities, from 11+ exams up to further maths. Along with teaching students new content and helping them deepen their mathematical understanding, I will ensure they also understand how to approach exam questions, and know how to deal with being stuck on the higher level questions.
I am familiar (and have received training for) with the new maths curriculum and grading system, and am up to date with the change in exam style. The change in style can be daunting for both students and parents alike, and I will ensure both are confident with what is expected and how students can prepare for their upcoming exams, on top of what I teach them.
My familiarity with the national curriculum, and understanding of schools, will ensure I can help students catch up on work they have missed out on in light of COVID-19, and I can provide guidance on how to prepare in light of the situation.
