Information about Ayla

I am an energetic, passionate and patient teacher. I have experienced a broad range of teaching myself (some good, some not so good!) and I have realised that having a methodical structured approach to teaching is very important. With younger students I tend to use the Grade Book System as I find that is provides clear and attainable goals for both the student and teacher. It also gives the student a sense that they are progressing which I believe is extremely important in inspiring and motivating a pupil to work hard. While the grades provide good structure, I never only rely on exams as they won`t provide a consistent source of musical inspiration. I encourage my pupils to join orchestras and play chamber music with friends as at the end of the day, the real joy in music comes from creating it with other people and sharing it with audiences!

I started playing the violin and piano at the age of 6. Coming from a musical family, my two younger sisters are also musicians and I grew up with music at the centre of my life. By the age of 12 I had passed both my Grade 8 on the violin and piano with distinction and completed my DipABRSM at the age of 15 on the violin, also with distinction. From the age of 14-18 I was a student at the Junior Department of the Royal Academy of Music where I held a full scholarship and lead all the orchestras, as well as winning the Concerto Competition in my final year. I have a lot of orchestral experience having also been leader of the Brighton Youth Orchestra and a member of the National Youth Orchestra. This has lead me to perform in some of England`s greatest concert halls such as the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, The Barbican, Cadogan Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall.

I am now a full time undergraduate student at the Royal Academy of Music, where I study with Jack Liebeck, having previously been taught by Joshua Fisher. This has been an exciting and full on first year at University. Highlights of this year include performing Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the Marches Sinfonia, participating in the LacMus Festival in Lake Como, the Verao Classico Festival Academy in Lisbon and MusicWorks Further Study Quartet Course in Cornwall.
I am a passionate chamber musician and perform often with my quartet and piano quintet . I am looking forward to our Wigmore Hall Debut in the 2019/2020 season.

Experience: I have been teaching the violin and the piano for 5 years and have enjoyed teaching students of different ages and abilities, ranging from child beginners to amateur adults players. I believe there is no right or wrong age to start enjoying music. I am happy to methodically work through the grade book system but would be equally happy to support someone on their musical journey through another method as exams are not for everyone!
