Information about Lukas

I grew up in Austria, graduated from Cambridge (First Class) in 2017 and love tutoring German and Philosophy!

German

German is my mother tongue. I have tutored more than 30 people in German, from total beginners to highly advanced and from small children to octogenarians. I try to tailor my teaching approach to the individual needs of the student as much as possible. Speaking should be at the centre of a German lesson. Learning German requires fun and discipline. I think my German lessons contain both.

Philosophy

After studying Philosophy for a BA and an MPhil at Cambridge University, I am now doing a PhD in University College London. I have helped both A-level and university students write their philosophy assignments and prepare for exams. I can offer advice on essay writing and exam techniques. When it comes to Philosophy itself, I prefer the Socratic method: making the student think instead of giving long lectures!

My Biography

I grew up on a farm in a small village in Austria. There was not much to do there, but when I attended my Gymnasium (secondary school), I discovered my love for ancient languages (Latin and Greek). Reading about the ideas of those times, I got into philosophy and the big questions. My first extended essay at school dealt with the question of free will. Then I worked as a paramedic for 9 months. This was an exercise in character-building and real world experience! Afterwards, I studied Philosophy at Cambridge University for four years. Now I am here in London, pursuing a PhD in the Philosophy of Political Economy at UCL and ready to share my knowledge with you.

Availability: I usually see students in the British Library, which is a wonderful space for learning in the middle of London.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: My tutoring experience includes teaching more than 70 students in German, Philosophy, Latin, Ancient Greek, English (as a foreign language) and Oxbridge admissions.
