Information about Emma

My name is Emma and I am an enthusiastic and passionate teacher with a real thirst for teaching and learning. I have loved learning throughout my academic life and I believe that this passion transpires through my teaching and influences the students that I teach.

I believe that every individual has the ability to achieve their academic potential with some hard work and lots of motivation and determination. This is the positive ethos that underpins my teaching.

I have a 2:1 BA (Hons) degree in English Literature from the University of Reading and qualified as a teacher from the University of Plymouth with a PGCE in Primary Education, and was awarded an OFSTED equivalent "outstanding" grade for my teaching.

I have completed a PGCE in primary education, so have worked within the classroom setting ranging from age 4 up to age 11. I have worked full time as a private tutor for numerous years now, working with students from KS1 up to A Level, teaching English, Maths and Psychology. All of my students have achieved great success.

I use vast array of teaching techniques and styles that are tailored around the individual learning needs and styles of the student. Not only as it given me invaluable teaching experience, but it has also allowed me to create a very positive demeanour and approach with all students I work with. My teaching style is designed to boost confidence with lots of positive praise and encouragement, after all no-one excelled at any subject when they thought they were awful at it! I work on raising confidence in the student`s abilities that will eventually lead to an enjoyment of the subject. If a subject is enjoyed, then students will feel more comfortable in their ability to excel at it.

Availability: I am available all weekdays and weekends. Please get in touch to check availability and to discuss a suitable slot for you.

Willing to travel: 12 miles

Experience: I have worked as a private tutor for 8 years now and have achieved fantastic results in KS2 SATS, 11+, GCSE English and A Level English and Psychology. I pride myself on the swift progression my students make and eventual enjoyment and confidence in a subject they were maybe fearful of before.

My approach to tutoring is not to teach to the specification of the exam or subject straight away but to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the student in the particular area that is being studied with me. The lessons will always be fun, creative and engaging but at the same time will allow for a focus on the areas of study that need the most attention.
