Information about Steve

;Hi There,

I`m Steve and I`ve been playing drums for 15 years and providing 1-1 tuition for 10 years, with over 50 drummers coming in the past 3 years alone.

I have acquired a wealth of experience from studying music throughout education, including studying in depth on a 4 years performance degree course in drumming (BIMM London), as well as performing in many gigs and concerts at venues such as Wembley SSE Arena, The Isle of Wight Festival, Camden Rocks Festival and many other UK venues.

I love to play drums, and thrive on passing on my knowledge and experience to help guide drummers, complete beginners through to advanced, to help improve their playing.

Music is a form of expression that is like nothing else and my aim is to help every student to gain or increase their understanding of this. It`s an art form that is healthy in many ways. Whether that be to help de stress during a difficult time, burn off some energy, dive headfirst into learning all about the music world, practice discipline and improve your drumming skills and musical competency. As one of my students once said, `Drumming really adds a new dimension to life`, and I would completely agree!

Throughout my studies I have focussed in depth on developing a high standard of technique as well as many other areas such as; numerous genres and styles, reading, listening and transcri ption, how to get a good sound out of the drums, timing and much more.

Here`s some things that will help highlight how lessons are presented.

- ;I believe that enjoyment is absolutely necessary in order to progress quickly and efficiently - what you enjoy you will do more of!
- I therefore ensure that your aspirations and aims are taken into account to provide you with both a fun and satisfying approach as well as defining the content. Lessons and practice should be fun because you`re doing something that you love.
- As well as receiving and experience full of enjoyment in playing, you will also develop great technique. It`s much better for you to develop good technique from the beginning, making rectifying bad habits unnecessary. It`s much easier to begin well rather than re-learn later in your playing career.
- You can benefit from experience in entry level right through to advanced technique.
- Your musical interests and aims will help shape the content and direction of your lessons.
I have a breadth of teaching experience, am familiar with both Rockschool and Trinity Grades 1-8 and have spent 4 years studying in depth for a performance degree. All this means that I possess the experience and understanding in learning processess and styles to tailor my apporach to fit your specific needs.

I possess a current DBS certificate, am based in SW London and am also taking online lesson bookings.

Availability: Weekdays / evenings.

Willing to travel: 15 miles

Experience: Having spent the past 10 years providing drum tuition to people of all ages and backgrounds, your lessons will be tailored to your specific aims and goals. During the early lessons we could discuss and evaluate your requirements to reach your goals.
Whether you need the guidance necessary for someone starting out, or are looking for instruction to take you to the next level in your playing, you will find you can gain either from my lessons.

In addition you will also benefit from a teacher who is still committed to their own development, which has involved instruction from the legendary Erik Stams (Walter Schreifles, Butch Thomas, Viola Wills) and Giuseppe Grondona whom has shared the same stage as Eric Clapton, Coolio and Pink. This development enables me to provide you updated approaches and techniques, as they emerge.

Furthermore, as well as delivering drum tuition to help guide many drummers much like yourself, I am continuously expanding my own knowledge and gathering a wealth of experience from performing regularly in many London music Venues and festivals such as:

Wembley SSE Arena
Isle of Wight Festival
Camden Rocks Festival
Dingwalls Camden
Camden Assembly
Water Rats

and many more.

This experience and knowledge helps to develop and shape my lessons so that you receive the best experience possible.

Here`s a couple of References:
‘Steve is way more than just a drum teacher. He loves what he does and that echoes to his students as well. I appreciated deeply his ability and desire to see through my needs as a drummer. In all honesty, I felt more like a drummer in the making than just a drum student and that is the key to Steve’s greatness

He gave me space, trust and time to develop my connection with drums. He also gave me the freedom to experiment as well as being by my side to make sure I learned everything the right way. Everything ran so organically in all of our lessons. Steve is rad drummer, a true teacher and a great human being! Thank you Steve!’

CHARA – DRUMMING STUDENT

‘Steve is a fantastic drum teacher. I started lessons earlier this year, having never played and with absolutely no sense of rhythm. Steve is patient, always enthusiastic, and has excellent communication and motivational skills. He has achieved what I thought was the impossible – he’s taught me how play to a beat (in time!), develop a sense of rhythm and feel confident sat at a drum kit! I have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone keen to learn to play the drums.’
