Information about Anna

I tutor history up to A-level, maths up to GCSE, and English, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning up to year 9. In my tutoring sessions, I listen to students to identify which aspects of the curriculum they find more challenging and then work with them to demystify any difficult concepts and to build up their confidence in their ability to solve problems independently. I ensure that students have a sense of achievement while also being challenged to reach their full potential. Seeing students discover what they`re capable of is really inspiring and makes the work we do together feel worthwhile.

I am keen to encourage students to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for the subject, whether that be through explaining the logic behind mathematical concepts, providing useful historical context that goes beyond what is written in their textbooks, or sending them details of books, videos, or articles they may be interested in. I adapt this approach to suit the needs of the student as well as their particular interests. I am also careful to ensure that my students have a solid understanding of exam technique and mark schemes, so they know what examiners are looking for and can go into exams feeling confident and well-prepared.

It is important for me that students enjoy the tutoring sessions and I have a friendly and supportive relationship with all my tutees, which I find helps increase their enthusiasm for learning and contributes to improving academic results in the long term.

Alongside tutoring, I work part-time in the charity sector and at a criminal law firm. In these roles as well as other work I have done since graduating in 2014, I have gained significant experience in working with refugees, community groups, young people, older isolated people, and people with experience of the criminal justice system. All of this has helped me to develop skills in supporting people to overcome a range of challenges and I apply what I`ve learnt here in my approach to tutoring.

Availability: I am currently available on Tuesdays after 4pm, Wednesdays after 5.30pm, all day on Thursdays, and weekend mornings.

Willing to travel: 3 miles

Experience: I have tutored students who are preparing for their GCSEs and A-levels in history. I have supported students to improve their exam technique, produce high quality coursework, improve their essay-writing structure, gain a better understanding of the historical context, and develop confidence in analysing a range of historical sources.

I have also taught maths to students from ages 11-18, both in one-to-one and group settings. This has included planning and delivering lessons on subjects such as algebraic equations, geometry, fractions, ratios, probability and statistics, and supporting students to prepare for their GCSEs and A-levels by going through past exam papers.
