Information about Chris

I`ve been a Head of Maths in a Manchester School and a Programme Leader for Music at a local college. I am an examiner for Maths with the [contact detail removed] and a Standards Verifier for [contact detail removed].
I play bass in a local dance band and have played with several rock and soul groups. I sing, and play guitar and sax. My other interests include woodwork, woodland management and supporting Blackpool FC.

I do carry copies of my qualifications and testimonials with me to show new clients. I have had a stable group of tutees over the last two years, but now have vacant slots in the week.

Availability: From March 2022, I can take on a new tutee any time on Tuesdays or Wednesdays across South Blackpool or Fylde. I am fully booked up at other times.

I offer the first lesson free, as long as at least one term`s work is offered, as I do wish to be sure that each tutee does have a positive attitude towards having a tutor. I also want parents to have the opportunity to talk to me before making the commitment and inviting me to tutor their child. However, if parents wish me to come in as a `last chance saloon` tutor to try to boost exam results, I`ll do it, but in that case will not offer the first class free.

Willing to travel: 8 miles

Experience: I taught Maths up to A Level for 18 years at four different secondary schools in Merseyside, Essex, Oldham and Manchester with a good success rate at GCSE. I went on to teach BTEC Music to students from age 16 to 60. Throughout this career I tutored small groups and individual students in addition to the normal timetables, and supported friends and relatives through their Maths exams. I have been tutoring in this area for nine years and do pick up most of my students from personal recommendations from the parents of previous students.

Every student has different needs, so my approach is tailored to their requirements. I will recognise strengths and weaknesses and create an individual scheme of work to target the best possible Maths GCSE grade, or indeed to improve the learner`s understanding of and attitude to Maths. With the new GCSE syllabus and a more demanding type of question for higher level students, having a good examination technique is crucial to success, and my experience as an examiner supports the development of this in my students.

Chris tutored my son for his Maths GCSE (higher Paper). An excellent tutor who managed to spark some interest in a very determined `math hater`.
Chris was professional and easygoing, and a pleasure to be acquainted with.

Tutors Response :

Thanks, Jenny. Eli did the work, I just gave him a focus. Let me know how he gets on!
