Information about Alison

I tutor GCSE and Key Stage 3 students with an excellent success rate. Many of my GCSE students have exceeded their expected grades. Lessons are carefully planned and tailored to each student`s needs. Resources are emailed through for printing before each session. We then work through at the student`s pace, allowing plenty of opportunities for thinking time, questioning and checks for thorough understanding. Wrong answers are fine- I will spot them and we will think again together, there is never any pressure to get it right first time! Independent practice resources, to strengthen and consolidate new topics covered during the session, can be provided upon request after each session.

Student mental health and well-being is prioritised at all times. I do not believe that anyone can learn if they are stressed. I am a trained Youth Mindfulness teacher so a stress free experience is guaranteed!

I am happy to tutor on a weekly basis or as and when required, there is no obligation to commit.

Availability: As a full time tutor- I offer tuition during the day as well as evenings.
At the moment have availability on Monday evenings and daytime availability on Wednesdays and Thursdays as well as weekends

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: I have taught maths up to Higher GCSE level in Secondary Schools in Milton Keynes and Northamptonshire since 1999. I have also taught adults Higher GCSE Maths for Milton Keynes Adult Continuing Education (ACE).

I also have an Open University Certificate in Mathematics as well as a Distinction in Developing Algebraic Thinking at Key Stage 3; a level 3 Open University Maths Education Course. I am also a Youth Mindfulness teacher.
I have tutored many students with a range of differing needs and targets. My experience ranges from working with students who have previously struggled with basic arithmetic, 11+ and 13+ entrance examination preparation, to teaching the Higher GCSE syllabus.

Alison is a brilliant tutor. She is engaging, patient and makes the sessions with my son so much fun. Within a very short period of time I noticed a huge difference, the sessions are really helping to build his confidence and understanding of maths. After each session Alison provides feedback on how he has done and what she will work on with him. I wholeheartedly recommend

Tutors Response :

Thank you Tosin for your very kind review. Your son is a pleasure to teach, I am very pleased with his progress so far

My son who is currently in Year 8 has been having lessons with Alison for about 4 months now (with a break over summer). Lessons take place online and Alison uses a range of tools which make those conference calls run smooth. There is a noticeable increase in my son`s confidence and he really enjoys those lessons. Sessions with Alison are very well structured and are based on assessing and recognising student`s strengths and weaknesses. Each lesson has a short revision period focusing on key basic skills - "little but often" allows my son to keep those skills "topped up", so to speak. Alison is a very warm and approachable tutor and makes the student feel welcome and motivated, so if you have a quiet or shy child, working with Alison will definitely make them feel comfortable. What I am particularly happy with is the way Alison introduced my son to revision cards - this was something that presented a particular problem for us. I wasn`t able to convince him that taking notes and using them for revision was worthwhile. I discussed this with Alison and asked her for help. She built in note taking into the lesson and encouraged him to use those in-between lessons - he could soon see the difference between lessons for which he had used the cards and those that he hadn`t. He now accepts this as a natural method of learning and is still supported to use them. This means that my son is not only developing his maths skills which allows him to perform well at school day-to-day, but is also developing his learning skills which is especially important for exam preparation where you are tested on your "cumulative" knowledge, not just something you`ve done recently. I always receive feedback/report from each lesson in which Alison tells me what went well, which areas need attention and what they will be working on next.

Tutors Response :

Thank you Agnieszka for your very kind review. It really is my pleasure to teach Mirek. It is so rewarding to see how much he has grown in confidence as well as ability.
