Information about Alicia

Hello students! My name is Alicia and I am a professional flautist and teacher based in East London. I like to think I have excellent communication skills and I give 100% to all my pupils in order to help them grow with individually tailored, fun and engaging 1-to-1 lessons. I am constantly thriving to work to the highest possible standard. Other hobbies include writing music reviews, editorials for blogs and producing electronic music.

I am currently in the final year of my music performance undergraduate course, and find myself with plenty of time to dedicate to teaching flute, music theory and academic music (GCSE and A level standard). Depending on whether you would like to sit graded examinations, I will work within the requirements of the ABRSM and Trinity grade systems. Each lesson will be personalised and structured around the needs of the student.

Feel free to contact me regarding availability and to arrange what will have to be online classes until further notice, due to the current climate. I am based in the Aldgate East area but am willing to travel around London to get to my students if that is easier for them.

Availability: I am free on weekdays, with some weekend slots available, but please do get in touch.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: In recent years, I completed 6 years of studying music as a specialist musician at Wells Cathedral School in Somerset. My greatest achievements in life so far have been gaining a place at one of the London Conservatoires, achieving my grade 8 with distinction at the age of 12, and winning the Two Moors Festival Young Musicians` Competition in 2016.

I am now in my final year at Trinity Laban Conservatoire, with a scholarship from the Royal Naval Greenwich Hospital Fund and am very proud to have won the Trinity Laban Flute Cup in 2019. I have also been lucky enough to have studied with a number of professional flautists which I have looked up to for years, such as Susan Milan, Lisa Nelsen, and currently Fiona Kelly. I am also studying piccolo under the tuition of Christopher Green.

Over the years, I have attended masterclasses lead by some of the best in the industry such as Sir James Galway, William Bennett OBE, Kate Hill, Michael Cox and Emily Beynon.

My flute has taken me around the UK and I have performed in various venues such as The Anvil in Basingstoke, the Chapel at the Old Royal Naval College, Powderham Castle, Blackheath Halls, Exeter Cathedral and Wells Cathedral.

I have taken part in the leadership of various Primary School workshops, and have had around 2 years teaching experience of mostly younger children, but am keen to take on flautists of any level to teach what I have learned over the years and learn from my students to gain a better understanding of the art of teaching.
