Information about Jessica
I am a 27 year old University Graduate with a degree in Psychology from The University of Nottingham and a PGCE from UEA. I have a passion for teaching children and have worked in various childcare capacities. I recently worked in Switzerland where I learnt French and cared for two children aged 8 & 10 for a year. I am now in my third year of teaching and have taught both Year 1 and Reception. I teach all subjects with a specialism in phonics.
I like to make it more the subjects entertaining, I am a firm believer that learning without enjoyment is never going to lead to long term success. I`ve found that by using white boards, interesting puzzles and games I can capture a child`s enjoyment of learning and help them achieve what they want. If a child is switched off no progress is going to be made so my first challenge is to get them to want to learn.
Availability: I will be working all weekdays during term time but am available after school from 4.30. I am also available on weekends and for extra sessions in school holidays.
Willing to travel: 12 miles
Experience: I have tutored six children, one child moved up two maths levels in the six months that I worked with her and she ended up gaining a Level 3 in her Year 2 SATs when her teacher didn`t even plan for her to sit the higher paper. Another young girl that I worked with hated maths and dreaded the lesson. After just a few weeks of working together she had recieved a maths prize at school and was far more comfortable with the class and the teachers even commented that she was raising her hand and answering questions.
I am currently in my third year of teaching so am becoming very familiar with differentiating lessons and ensuring that they are accessible to all children. I have worked with children from many different backgrounds and circumstances. Due to my work in schools I am familiar with the expectations for each year group as well as many of the schemes which schools follow.
