Information about Sang-hwa
Hello! I recently graduated with a double first class degree in History (8th in the year) from the University of Cambridge, where I also received the Senior Scholarship and the Edward Buckland Prize for History. Previously, I completed my A-levels at St Paul`s Girls` School, London, and achieved 3 A*s in History (398/400 UMS), Latin (397/400 UMS), and German (383/400 UMS). I also received 11 A*s at GCSE, as well as an A grade in AS Maths.
I am extremely friendly, enthusiastic, and committed at all times. It is really important to me to develop a strong rapport with my tutees because I believe this is essential, if effective progress is to be made, and I always ensure that I tailor the lessons to the individual pupil. I feel strongly that, where necessary, it is also part of my job to instil confidence and self-assurance in my students, which I endeavour to achieve through patience and understanding, all the while helping them to reach their true potential learning should be both an exciting challenge and a joy!
Having just recently left education myself, I am very sympathetic to all students and the unique challenges that they face. While, therefore, much of my experience is in teaching primary school children, I am also just as capable and very much enjoy teaching older students, closer to my own age, who may perhaps benefit from a tutor that can simultaneously act as friend and mentor as and when necessary in a more informal, but nevertheless no less rigorous and effective environment.
Aside from providing tutoring in History, Latin, and Maths, I am also very happy to offer support and advice for those hoping to apply to university for History - in particular, specific tips re. Oxbridge applications, help with entrance exams and personal statements, what to expect from interviews etc.
Availability: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, I have moved all my lessons online. For the next few months in particular my schedule is very flexible and I am able to accommodate most reasonable requests 7 days a week.
Willing to travel: 8 miles
Experience: Teaching has been an integral part of my life in various guises for the past 7 years.
* I volunteered at my local primary school with the Minimum Latin scheme for two years and was also a professional part-time assistant teacher with NumberWorks`nWords.
* Last summer I spent 5 weeks teaching classes of up to 40 children in HVP-Thali, Nepal.
* Since August 2016 I have been working as a private tutor alongside my studies. I am very pleased that my 11+ and 13+ students gained a place at their first-choice schools and that my current oldest student has made remarkable progress in his Latin studies with me over the years, winning the scholar`s tie and confidently about to enter his final year at school.
