Information about Jessica
I am a qualified teacher of A Level Sociology at a leading private school and sixth form in Oxford. I also hold a senior pastoral role as a Director of Studies.
I am a friendly, calm and personable teacher who thoroughly enjoys supporting students at every stage of their A Levels. I aim to make learning as engaging and enjoyable as possible.
Students regularly comment that I am an approachable and relatable teacher that can empathise with their experiences during what can be a stressful time in their sixth form studies.
My approach to teaching is always catered to the individual. What works for some students will not work for others and so I am extremely adaptable and flexible to what each learner needs.
Sociology A Level is a challenging course that requires a mastering of exam technique in order to achieve at the highest level. When tutoring students I regularly encourage the practice of exam answers, both short answer and essays, and will provide detailed feedback to all essay plans and answers completed. I also encourage students to respond to such feedback, so that they too are able to track their own progress throughout my tutoring services.
I am more than happy to provide families with suggestions on how they too can support the student. Learning is a holistic process that can be very positive when catered specifically for the individual from all angles.
Sociology is (in my opinion!) the best subject - I want all students to be able to enjoy and succeed in their studies.
During this challenging period of online learning, some students may be lacking confidence in their progress. I am happy to provide online tutoring to help students with any gaps in their knowledge between the first and second year of A Level, to ensure that students begin Year 13 as prepared and confident as possible.
Availability: During term time I am available most weekday evenings. I can also be available during school holidays, most of the time.

Experience: - I have been a teacher of A Level Sociology for 6 years and have experienced teaching in both the state sector and private sector.
- Excellent track record of helping students achieve outstanding results that are regularly a couple of grades above their predicted grade at the start of the A Level.
- I am completely accustomed with the requirements and specifications of the AQA examination board.
- I have extensive experience providing one-to-one support with students in developing their exam technique, including students with a range of learning needs.
- I also have several years experience as a personal tutor. I am also presently a Director of Studies in my current workplace, meaning I am acutely aware of the pastoral needs of students.
- In my experience as a tutor and Director of Studies, I have also assisted students in their university application, including offering guidance on writing their personal statements.
